statusline-check

statusline-check is a skill for Claude Code from yusufalikync/ccs. It costs 12 tokens per session (435 once invoked), scanned B, original, MIT.

A health-check and troubleshooting routine for an installed terminal status line, the information bar shown while using a coding assistant. It checks the script, settings, Node.js version, credentials, cache, and a sample run.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to verify installation, confirm that settings point to the right script, check required Node.js and credentials, inspect cached data, and run a smoke test.
Why use it?
It helps identify why the status line is missing, misconfigured, unable to access usage data, or failing at runtime.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00012 $0.00435
Opus 5 $0.00006 $0.00217
Sonnet 5 $0.00002 $0.00087
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00044

Security

Grade B, and why

statusline-check scanned grade B with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

What it actually says

Statusline Health Check

Run a comprehensive health check on the installed statusline setup and provide troubleshooting guidance.

Checklist

Run these checks in order and report results:

1. Script installed

ls -la ~/.claude/statusline.js

Expected: file exists and is readable.

2. Settings configured

Read ~/.claude/settings.json and verify:

  • statusLine key exists
  • command value references statusline.js
  • padding is set

3. Node.js version

node --version

Must be >= 18 (for fetch API support).

4. Credential access

macOS:

security find-generic-password -s "Claude Code-credentials" 2>&1 | head -3

Linux:

secret-tool lookup service "Claude Code-credentials" 2>&1 | head -3

Should not return an error about item not found.

5. Cache status

ls -la ${TMPDIR:-/tmp}/claude_usage_cache_*.json 2>/dev/null || echo "No cache files found"

Report count and age of cache files.

6. Quick smoke test

echo '{"model":{"display_name":"Test"},"cost":{"total_cost_usd":0},"context_window":{"used_percentage":50},"workspace":{"current_dir":"/tmp"},"session_id":"healthcheck"}' | node ~/.claude/statusline.js

Should produce two lines of output without errors.

Output Format

Present results as a checklist:

  • Check passed
  • Check failed — explain what's wrong and how to fix it

If any check fails, provide specific fix instructions (e.g., ccs install, update Node.js).

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

statusline-check is a skill published in the GitHub repository yusufalikync/ccs (2 stars, last pushed 5mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 12 tokens to every session and 435 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it B with 1 finding (reads agent configuration directories). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
