evo-pptx-embedded-update

evo-pptx-embedded-update is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Zhang-Henry/CoEvoSkills. It costs 64 tokens per session (607 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A tool that changes one value inside an Excel workbook embedded in a PowerPoint file, using an instruction written in a slide text box. It keeps formulas and formatting while refreshing dependent calculated values.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to discover the embedded workbook and target cell, apply a currency-rate update, save a new PPTX file, and validate the result.
Why use it?
It avoids manually opening the presentation, locating the embedded spreadsheet and cell, changing the value, and checking that formulas still show updated results.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00064 $0.00607
Opus 5 $0.00032 $0.00303
Sonnet 5 $0.00013 $0.00121
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00061

Security

Grade A, and why

evo-pptx-embedded-update scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (scripts/utils.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Embedded Workbook Update in PPTX

Updates one value cell in an embedded Excel workbook inside a PowerPoint file. The update instruction is read from a text-box shape on the slide. All structure (embedded path, worksheet, target cell) is discovered at runtime. Formula cells are kept as formulas but their cached results are recalculated to reflect the new value.

End-to-End Example

The caller sets input_pptx and output_pptx to the paths given by the task instruction.

import sys
sys.path.insert(0, '/app/environment/skills/evo-pptx-embedded-update/scripts')
from utils import run_end_to_end, validate

input_pptx = '<path from task instruction>'
output_pptx = '<path from task instruction>'

result = run_end_to_end(input_pptx, output_pptx)
validate(output_pptx,
         result['from_currency'],
         result['to_currency'],
         result['new_rate'])

Functions

Function Purpose
scan_textboxes(p) Collect text from every text-frame shape
parse_update_instruction(t) Extract (from, to, value) from free text
locate_embedded_xlsx(p) Find the embedded xlsx archive entry
find_matrix_cell(xb, rl, cl) Locate a cell by header matching
update_embedded_value(ip, op, fl, tl, v) Surgical edit with cache refresh
run_end_to_end(ip, op) Full pipeline
validate(op, fl, tl, r) Post-hoc integrity check

Approach

  • Surgical XML edit — the target cell's <v> text is replaced in the raw XML string. Formula cells that transitively depend on the changed cell have their cached <v> values recalculated.
  • Formula preservation<f> elements are never removed or altered; only <v> cached results are refreshed.
  • ZIP preservation — every other entry in both the xlsx and pptx archives is copied with original compression, timestamps, and attrs.
  • Value formats — user-entered values use repr() (shortest round-trip decimal); cached formula results use %.17g (full IEEE 754 precision), matching OOXML conventions.
  • Safe evaluation — formula evaluation supports ROUND() and basic arithmetic via validated expression parsing; unsupported formulas leave cached values unchanged.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
