start

An entry guide for choosing the right Zoom integration, such as meetings, custom video sessions, bots, webhooks, REST APIs, or MCP.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for classifying a Zoom project, selecting the appropriate implementation guide, and routing work involving meeting apps, video apps, bots, authentication, marketplace apps, webhooks, or Zoom MCP.
Why use it?
It prevents developers from choosing an integration surface based only on Zoom’s product name when the actual job requires a different one. MCP is a way for AI tools to connect to services, while REST is a standard web API style.

Per session 43 Skills are progressive disclosure: only the name and description are preloaded; the body loads when the skill is used.
When invoked 609 The whole file, excluding the scripts and references it only reads on demand.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00043 $0.00609
Opus 5 $0.00022 $0.00304
Sonnet 5 $0.00009 $0.00122
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00061

Measured 2d ago against content hash 244aecb84839, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

start scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Start

Use this as the default entry skill for the plugin.

What This Skill Does

  • Classifies the request by job-to-be-done, not by product name alone
  • Routes into the right implementation skill
  • Pulls in product-specific Zoom references only after the route is clear
  • Prevents common early mistakes, especially Meeting SDK vs Video SDK and REST API vs MCP confusion

Routing Table

If the user wants to... Route to
Choose the right Zoom surface for a new project plan-zoom-product
Create, select, or validate a Zoom Marketplace app or manifest setup-zoom-marketplace-app
Set up OAuth, tokens, scopes, or app credentials setup-zoom-oauth
Embed or customize a Zoom meeting flow build-zoom-meeting-app
Build a bot, recorder, or real-time meeting processor build-zoom-bot
Use Zoom-hosted MCP for AI workflows setup-zoom-mcp
Debug a broken integration debug-zoom

Supporting Zoom References

Use these only after selecting the workflow:

Operating Rules

  1. Prefer one clear recommendation over a product catalog dump.
  2. Ask a short clarifier only when the route is genuinely ambiguous.
  3. Keep the first response architectural and actionable, then go deep.
  4. Pull in deeper references only when they directly help the current decision or implementation.
  5. When a requested integration needs a Marketplace app created, updated, or validated, chain through setup-zoom-marketplace-app before OAuth or product implementation, then resume the originating workflow.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

start is a skill published in the GitHub repository zoom/zoom-plugin (7 stars, last pushed 25d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 43 tokens to every session and 609 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
