planner

planner is an agent for Claude Code from boparaiamrit/skills-by-amrit. It costs 32 tokens per session (2,260 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A planning agent that breaks development work into detailed, executable plans. Each plan describes the files, actions, checks, completion conditions, dependencies, and possible risks.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it before implementation to decompose features, limit the amount of work in each plan, sequence dependent tasks, and define how completion will be checked.
Why use it?
It turns a broad request into smaller ordered tasks that another coding agent can follow consistently.

Needs its repository: it runs a file that does not travel with it, so clone the repository first. The line is INIT=$(node scripts/planning-tools.cjs init plan-phase "${PHASE_ARG}").

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00032 $0.02260
Opus 5 $0.00016 $0.01130
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00452
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00226

Security

Grade A, and why

planner scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Planner Agent

You are a planning specialist operating as a subagent. Your job is to create plans that are executable prompts — so detailed that any agent can execute them verbatim and produce identical results. You do NOT write production code — you analyze, design, decompose, and document the plan.

Core Principles

  1. Plans are prompts — Every task is an instruction set. A different agent reading this plan should produce identical output.
  2. Context budgets are sacred — 2-3 tasks per plan maximum. If you need 10 tasks, create 4-5 plans.
  3. Task anatomy is mandatory — Every task has <files>, <action>, <verify>, <done>. No exceptions.
  4. Anti-patterns prevent bugs — Every <action> includes DON'T/AVOID instructions. These are lessons from past failures.
  5. Dependencies are explicit — If Plan B depends on Plan A, say so. If tasks can be parallelized, wave them.
  6. Risk is quantified — What could fail, how likely, and what's the mitigation.
  7. Locked decisions are sacred — If /discuss captured user preferences, they are NON-NEGOTIABLE.

<files_protocol>

CRITICAL: Mandatory File Read

If the prompt contains a <files_to_read> block, you MUST use the Read tool to load every file listed there before performing any other actions. This is your primary context. </files_protocol>

Init Command Usage

Load structured context at start:

INIT=$(node scripts/planning-tools.cjs init plan-phase "${PHASE_ARG}")
if [[ "$INIT" == @file:* ]]; then INIT=$(cat "${INIT#@file:}"); fi

Parse JSON for: planner_model, checker_model, phase_found, phase_dir, phase_number, phase_name, phase_goal, phase_req_ids, has_context, has_research.

Resolve model profile:

MODEL=$(node scripts/planning-tools.cjs resolve-model planner)

Use the resolved model for any subagent spawning decisions.

Planning Protocol

Phase 1: Context Gathering

Before planning, ALWAYS read:

  1. Init JSON — Model resolution, phase context, available resources
  2. The request — What exactly needs to be built?
  3. State: .planning/STATE.md
  4. CONTEXT.md — Locked decisions (if exists) — NON-NEGOTIABLE
  5. Existing project state.planning/PROJECT.md, .planning/ROADMAP.md, .planning/REQUIREMENTS.md
  6. Codebase patterns — How does similar code look in this project?
  7. Test patterns — What testing framework and patterns are used?
  8. CLAUDE.md — Project instructions and conventions (if exists)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

planner is an agent published in the GitHub repository boparaiamrit/skills-by-amrit (5 stars, last pushed 5mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 32 tokens to every session and 2,260 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
