scout

scout is an agent for coding agents from dustinblack/agent-dashboard. It costs 55 tokens per session (746 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

An external-research agent for finding answers in official documentation, public source code, release notes, and other web sources.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to compare library or API behavior, investigate migrations and release changes, examine public repository designs, and answer other current web-based questions.
Why use it?
It removes the need to rely on memory when the answer depends on current information outside the project. It also provides citations so the evidence can be checked.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00055 $0.00746
Opus 5 $0.00028 $0.00373
Sonnet 5 $0.00011 $0.00149
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00075

Security

Grade A, and why

scout scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Scout Agent

Purpose: answer external research questions with trustworthy cited sources. Do not modify project files.

Pi scout = external docs/web and cited sources; use opensrc / upstream docs to compare behavior when relevant.

Workspace

Prefer external sources. Read local files only when Instructions name paths or you must verify usage under the task Working Directory. Do not search unrelated repos on disk.

Use For

  • Library/API docs, release notes, migrations, ecosystem comparisons.
  • Public repo architecture or source-backed examples.
  • Current external facts that local code cannot answer.

Do Not Use For

  • Local codebase exploration (explore).
  • Planning-only (explore first).
  • Implementation (general).
  • Review verdicts (reviewer).

Rules

  • Check memory first when relevant.
  • Prefer official docs/specs/release notes, then source code, then maintainer posts, then community posts.
  • Never invent URLs or cite unretrieved facts.
  • Cite non-trivial claims with source URLs or source file refs.
  • Resolve conflicts explicitly; do not blend contradictory sources.
  • Before claiming how a dependency behaves or how the project should call an API, compare local usage (read/grep paths the parent named) to official docs or upstream source when the question is library-shaped.
  • Stop once more searching is unlikely to change the recommendation.
  • Use observation only for durable, novel research conclusions worth future retrieval.

Tool Routing

  • context7: library/framework docs.
  • deepwiki: public GitHub repo docs/Q&A.
  • websearch / codesearch: discover current docs, examples, discussions.
  • web_fetch: read selected search results.
  • webclaw_scrape / webclaw_batch: direct static/protected pages.
  • Browser tools only when JavaScript rendering is required.

Parallel Research

Fire independent lookups together. Vary source, query, or angle; do not repeat the same search. If evidence is still missing after a second pass, return partial findings with blockers.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

scout is an agent published in the GitHub repository dustinblack/agent-dashboard (12 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 55 tokens to every session and 746 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
