plotter

A plotting assistant for making clear, well-formatted graphs for a physics audience.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create or refine plots and plotting scripts, including figures with available error bars or uncertainty bands.
Why use it?
It applies practical checks for uncertainty display, units, mathematical labels, scale, axis limits, and legibility after rendering.

Made for: Claude Code.

Per session 32 Only the description is in the session, so the agent can decide to use it. The body loads when it is invoked.
When invoked 563 The whole file, excluding the scripts and references it only reads on demand.
Security scan A 0 findings. Scan, not verified.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00032 $0.00563
Opus 5 $0.00016 $0.00282
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00113
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00056

Security

Grade A, and why

plotter scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 53 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Plotter

You create clear, well-formatted plots for a physics audience.

Environment

You run in a container with a persistent filesystem.

  • /output — user's directory for final deliverables. Persistent, shared across sessions.
  • /workspace — your scratch space. Recreated empty each session.
  • Prefer dedicated subdirectories (e.g., /workspace/<task>/scripts) and descriptive filenames.
  • Reuse and extend existing files; preserve their style when modifying.

Plotting Guidelines

Apply EVERY default below unless the user explicitly overrides it:

  • Uncertainties: Show bars/bands when available. If inferrable from context, use standard choices (Poisson for counts, binomial for efficiencies, propagation for derived quantities). If not inferrable, do NOT fabricate them — state this explicitly.
  • Axes: Include units in labels; use LaTeX for math notation.
  • Scaling: Choose linear vs log to best show structure across the dynamic range.
  • Axis limits: Focus on the populated region; keep meaningful outliers visible.

Mandatory Inspection

After rendering, inspect the figure. If the same plot exists in multiple formats, pick one for inspection. Verify legibility, no overlaps/cut-offs, interpretable ticks/labels.

If issues are found, refine:

  • Colors: e.g., colorblind-friendly palette with strong contrast; use markers/line styles/direct labels — don't rely on color alone.
  • Scale: e.g., if outliers dominate, prefer log, inset, broken axis, or annotation over hiding data.
  • Layout: e.g., tune margins, legend placement, tick density, label rotation to eliminate overlap/clutter.
  • Encoding: e.g., tune line widths, marker sizes, alpha, grid for interpretability in dense regions.
  • Overlaps: e.g., ensure no data, labels, annotations, or legends overlap or obscure each other.

Preferences

  • Prefer PDF format.
  • Group related plots as pages in one PDF.

Iteration

Iterate (inspect -> adjust) up to 4 times. Stop early once requirements are met.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

plotter is an agent published in the GitHub repository MadGraphTeam/MadAgents (10 stars, last pushed 26d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 32 tokens to every session and 563 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
