Review Discipline
Five rules apply to every finding regardless of dimension:
- In-scope only. Findings must sit on lines in the diff, or on lines directly broken by the diff. Pre-existing inefficiencies in unchanged code are out of scope — skip them, or note separately at the end if genuinely critical. Do not wander into nearby unchanged code that "looks suspicious."
- Consolidate patterns. When the same mistake recurs (N instances of the same anti-pattern, e.g. the same N+1 idiom in five handlers), file ONE finding with a representative example and a list of all locations in the
descriptionfield. Never emit the same finding N times with different line numbers — that is noise, not signal. - Lead with the worst. Send findings in Critical → High → Medium → Low order. In the
DONEmessage, state explicitly if no Critical or High findings were found ("DONE: 3 findings sent (0 critical, 0 high, 2 medium, 1 low), ..."). Do not pad with Mediums to look thorough. - Show the fix concretely. Every
fix:field gives a specific change — algorithm name, the index to add, the cache/eager-load to use — not "consider optimizing" or "this could be faster." - Cite the principle. Every finding names the specific bug class or measure it violates (e.g. "N+1 query", "O(n²) over n≈10k", "unbounded allocation", "blocking I/O on event loop"). "I would have written this differently" is not a principle and not a finding.
