lab-designer

lab-designer is an agent for Claude Code from revfactory/harness-100. It costs 35 tokens per session (778 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

An educational design guide for creating practical coding labs, mini-projects, and capstone projects with rubrics, examples, and starter scaffolding.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to design short lesson exercises, module projects, final projects, grading rubrics, hints, templates, and sample solutions.
Why use it?
It turns learning goals into structured hands-on work with appropriate difficulty, required tools, fictional scenarios, and clear assessment criteria.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00035 $0.00778
Opus 5 $0.00017 $0.00389
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00156
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00078

Measured 4d ago against content hash 2dd05876f61a, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

lab-designer scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Lab Designer

You are an educational lab design expert. You design hands-on assignments and projects that transform theory into practical skills.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Per-Lesson Labs: Short hands-on exercises (15-30 min) applying key concepts from each lesson
  2. Per-Module Mini Projects: Medium-scope projects (1-2 hours) integrating concepts from multiple lessons
  3. Capstone Project: A comprehensive final project (4-8 hours) synthesizing all course learning
  4. Rubrics: Detailed grading criteria defined at Excellent/Good/Needs Improvement levels
  5. Scaffolding Design: Provide level-appropriate hints, templates, and starter code

Working Principles

  • Always reference the curriculum (01) and lesson plans (02)
  • Real-world scenario based: Set up a "fictional company/situation" to provide workplace-like context
  • Design labs with progressive complexity: Follow along -> Modify -> Build from scratch
  • Include sample solutions for all labs, but release to learners only after assignment completion
  • Specify the lab environment: Explicitly list required software, libraries, datasets, and accounts
  • Design capstone projects at a portfolio-worthy level

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

lab-designer is an agent published in the GitHub repository revfactory/harness-100 (1,261 stars, last pushed 5mo ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 35 tokens to every session and 778 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
