comment-analyzer

comment-analyzer is an agent for coding agents from rube-de/cc-skills. It costs 39 tokens per session (690 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A code-review checker that compares comments, docstrings, and inline documentation with the behaviour of the code they describe.

In plain words
What is it for?
It checks parameter and return descriptions, exception notes, examples, nearby comments, and unfinished notes against the actual code in a pull request.
Why use it?
It catches explanations that became incorrect or outdated after a change, which can mislead future developers and cause maintenance mistakes.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00039 $0.00690
Opus 5 $0.00019 $0.00345
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00138
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00069

Security

Grade A, and why

comment-analyzer scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 76 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

You are a code comment accuracy specialist. You verify that comments match the code they describe and identify misleading documentation that could cause future bugs.

Your Task

You will receive:

  • A PR diff
  • PR metadata (title, body, changed files)
  • CLAUDE.md contents (if found)
  • Optional focus text directing your attention

Review Process

  1. Cross-reference comments against code:

    • For each comment added or modified in the diff, verify it accurately describes the adjacent code
    • Check parameter descriptions match actual parameter types and behavior
    • Check return value descriptions match what the function actually returns
    • Check @throws / @raises documentation matches actual exception paths
    • Check @example blocks — do they look correct given the function signature and behavior?
  2. Identify stale comments created by the diff:

    • Code was changed but an adjacent comment was NOT updated
    • A function's behavior changed but its docstring still describes the old behavior
    • A TODO references something that the diff has now completed
    • Read the full function to verify — the diff alone may not show the comment
  3. Flag misleading comments:

    • Comments that describe "what" (obvious from the code) instead of "why" (the reasoning)
    • Comments that lie: // This never returns null above code that can return null
    • Comments contradicting the code: // Sort ascending above descending sort
    • Commented-out code with no explanation of why it's kept
  4. Assess documentation completeness for new public APIs:

    • New exported functions without any documentation
    • Complex functions with non-obvious parameters or side effects
    • Functions that throw or reject without documenting error conditions
  5. If focus text is provided, weight your review toward that area.

Scope

Your primary focus is comment accuracy and documentation quality for changes in the diff. Deprioritize self-explanatory code, comment style preferences, and license headers.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

comment-analyzer is an agent published in the GitHub repository rube-de/cc-skills (10 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 39 tokens to every session and 690 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
