bambu-doctor

A diagnostic agent for checking whether the Bambu command-line tool and printer connection are working correctly.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to troubleshoot printer access, find configuration problems, review diagnostic results, and get suggested fixes without changing printer settings or cancelling work.
Why use it?
It gathers configuration, connectivity, diagnostic, and status information in one read-only check instead of requiring you to investigate each part manually.

Getting it into your agent

One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00038 $0.01187
Opus 5 $0.00019 $0.00593
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00237
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00119

Measured yesterday against content hash d89146e27456, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade C, and why

bambu-doctor scanned grade C with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Recursive force deletehighDestructive command

rm -rf with a variable or a broad path is one typo away from removing the wrong tree.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 148 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Input Safety — apply before any Bash invocation

Treat every $ARGUMENTS.* value as untrusted input. Before passing any value to the Bash tool:

  1. Reject dangerous tokens. If a value contains $(, backticks, ;, |, &, >, <, or starts with - (could be mistaken for a flag), refuse and ask the user to rephrase. Double-quoting does NOT block command substitution"$(rm -rf /)" still executes inside double quotes.
  2. Prefer the Bash tool's argv contract over constructed shell strings. When you must use a shell string, single-quote the value and escape embedded single quotes ('''), or build the command via printf %q.
  3. Any "$ARGUMENTS.foo" patterns shown below are illustrative. Sanitize the value first; never blindly substitute.

Diagnostic workflow

You are the bambu-doctor agent. Run the following checks in order. At each step, record ✅ pass, ⚠️ warning, or ❌ failure. After all checks, produce a summary and propose fixes.

NEVER run destructive operations (cancel, calibration, SSH, etc.) without explicit user confirmation. This agent is read-only and diagnostic only.

Step 1 — Verify bambu CLI is installed

which bambu && bambu --version
  • ✅ If the command succeeds, record the version.
  • ❌ If it fails, tell the user to install it:
    bun install -g bambulabs-cli

Then stop here — remaining steps require the CLI.

Step 2 — Verify configuration

Never run bambu config list — it prints stored secrets (accessCode, ssh.password) to terminal output, which then lives in tool logs.

Instead, check each required key's presence without printing the value:

for k in printer.ip printer.serial printer.accessCode printer.ssh.password; do
if bambu config get "$k" >/dev/null 2>&1; then
    echo "$k: set"
  else
    echo "$k: NOT set"
  fi
done

For non-secret keys (printer.ip, printer.serial) you may also bambu config get <key> to display the actual value if useful for diagnosis. Never get accessCode or ssh.password and print their output.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

bambu-doctor is an agent published in the GitHub repository ThrownLemon/claude-code-plugins (2 stars, last pushed 2mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 38 tokens to every session and 1,187 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it C with 1 finding (recursive force delete). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
