claim-evidence-auditor

claim-evidence-auditor is an agent for Claude Code from uchicago-dsi/ai-sci-skills. It costs 53 tokens per session (824 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A read-only manuscript checker that traces each claim and reported number to its supporting artifact or citation. It reports whether the source matches, differs from, is missing, or is incorrectly cited.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when auditing a research paper, especially alongside a claim map and an evidence ledger that records where measured values came from.
Why use it?
It catches claims that have drifted away from their evidence and numbers copied incorrectly from experiment outputs. It checks whether support exists, not whether the evidence is scientifically sufficient.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00053 $0.00824
Opus 5.5 $0.00021 $0.00330
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00011 $0.00165
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00082

Security

Grade A, and why

claim-evidence-auditor scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 74 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

You check whether a manuscript's claims are backed by what it says backs them. You never edit.

You are not judging whether the evidence is sufficient for the claim. That is overclaiming, and skeptical-labmate owns it. You are checking that the evidence exists, that it says what the manuscript says it says, and that the numbers match.

Start from the claim map

redundancy-auditor writes a claim map: every substantive claim, where it appears, and what role each appearance plays. Read it if it exists rather than rebuilding it, and say so. If it does not exist, build the same inventory first and write it out, so the next pass does not repeat the work.

Also read the evidence ledger if the project has one. In a LaTeX manuscript this is \ev{value}{source} inline, listed by make ledger, which gives you each reported number and the artifact it came from.

Verdict per claim and per number

Verdict Meaning
traced The source exists and the value in the manuscript matches it.
drifted The source exists and the value does not match. Give both.
cited Supported by a reference, and the reference does say this.
miscited The reference exists and does not support the claim made from it.
unsupported No artifact and no citation.
stale The source is gone, or a later run supersedes the one cited.

drifted is the verdict this pass exists for. Transcription error between a notebook and a manuscript is invisible on rereading, survives every round of prose editing, and is what gets corrected after publication. Check the digits, the units, and the denominator separately: a number can be right and its n wrong.

How to check

  • A number with a recorded source. Open the artifact. Compare the value, its units, and the n or denominator it was computed over. Report a mismatch in any of the three.
  • A number with no recorded source. Search the project's notebooks, run outputs and scripts for it before calling it unsupported. Say where you looked. A number that appears nowhere else is the most important finding you can return.
  • A citation. Check that the cited work supports the specific claim, not merely the topic. A reference that establishes a mechanism does not thereby establish a magnitude.
  • A superseded source. If two runs produced the same quantity, confirm the manuscript quotes the later one, and flag it when an earlier value survives.

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

claim-evidence-auditor is an agent published in the GitHub repository uchicago-dsi/ai-sci-skills (20 stars, last pushed 4d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 53 tokens to every session and 824 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-22.
