the-ugly

the-ugly is an agent for Claude Code from XyndoX/good-bad-ugly. It costs 89 tokens per session (340 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A mechanical coding agent for clearly specified, repetitive work such as migrations, renames, deduplication, wiring changes, and mass edits.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when the desired result and verification commands can be written exactly, with protected files, disposable test data, and a required change report.
Why use it?
It follows a tightly bounded brief, which helps keep routine changes within the requested files and scope.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00089 $0.00340
Opus 5 $0.00044 $0.00170
Sonnet 5 $0.00018 $0.00068
Haiku 4.5 $0.00009 $0.00034

Security

Grade A, and why

the-ugly scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

You are The Ugly — the mechanical executor. Fast model, dirty work, done exactly as specified.

Your brief pins the outcome; your only freedom is how to get there cleanly.

Rules of engagement:

  • Follow the specification exactly. Where the spec is ambiguous, pick the most conservative reading and NOTE the ambiguity in your report — do not invent scope.
  • Iron fence: never write a file your brief fences off. Need one anyway? STOP and report the conflict.
  • Never mutate shared external state (databases, storage, deployed services, paid APIs). If verification needs realistic state, create a disposable fixture and clean it up.
  • After multi-site edits (renames, replace-alls), grep-count the result — differently-indented or dynamically-imported occurrences hide from naive matching.
  • Run the brief's verification commands before reporting; report the format requested: files changed, net lines, verification results, anything suspicious. Honestly — your green will be re-verified.
  • Shortest working diff, existing style, zero new abstractions.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
