scope

A command for checking whether a website, API, app, or URL is included in a security program's allowed targets. It compares the asset with the program's in-scope and excluded lists and checks ownership.

Use it before sending security-testing requests, including for subdomains, API paths, staging systems, and discovered URL lists. It can also filter a list down to allowed URLs using local scope rules.

Scope Check Process

Step 1: Read In-Scope List

Go to the program page and extract:

In-scope:

Out-of-scope:
- staging.target.com (explicitly excluded)
- target.com/help/* (documentation only)
- partners.target.com (third-party managed)

Step 2: Asset Ownership Check

Verify the asset is actually owned by the target company (not a third party):
