Conductor-Beads: Command for Claude Code

.claude/skills/conductor/references/commands/handoff.md

handoff is a command for Claude Code from NguyenSiTrung/Conductor-Beads. It costs 0 tokens per session (1,609 once invoked), scanned A, a copy of conductor-handoff, Apache-2.0.

A command for creating a context handoff document when implementation work must continue in another session or section. It gathers project progress, recent changes, and unresolved issues.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to summarize the active Conductor track, completed and pending tasks, recent Git changes, and any running parallel workers before handing work over.
Why use it?
It prevents important work context from being lost when a large task spans multiple conversations or context windows.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.01609
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00805
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00322
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00161

Security

Grade A, and why

handoff scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Conductor Handoff

Create a comprehensive context handoff document when you need to transfer implementation progress to a new section or session. Essential for large tracks that span multiple AI context windows.

1. Identify Active Track

  • Find track marked [~] in conductor/tracks.md
  • If no active track, ask user to specify or halt
  • Load spec.md, plan.md, and implement_state.json
  • Check for parallel_state.json (indicates parallel execution in progress)

1a. Parallel Execution Check

If parallel_state.json exists:

"⚠️ This track has parallel workers currently running:" [List workers and their status]

"A) Wait for workers to complete before handoff" "B) Create handoff anyway (workers will continue)" "C) Cancel handoff"

  • If A: Monitor parallel_state.json until all complete, then proceed
  • If B: Include parallel state in handoff document
  • If C: HALT

2. Gather Handoff Context

Progress Analysis:

  • Count completed [x], in-progress [~], pending [ ] tasks
  • Calculate overall percentage
  • Identify current phase and task position

Recent Changes:

git log --oneline -10
git diff --name-only HEAD~5

Unresolved Issues:

  • Check for [!] blocked markers in plan.md
  • Read blockers.md if exists
  • Ask user for any pending decisions or important context

3. Update Implementation State

Update conductor/tracks/<track_id>/implement_state.json with section tracking:

{
  "current_phase": "...",
  "current_phase_index": 1,
  "current_task_index": 3,
  "completed_phases": ["Phase 1"],
  "section_count": 2,
  "last_handoff": "<ISO timestamp>",
  "handoff_history": [
    {
      "section": 1,
      "timestamp": "...",
      "phase_at_handoff": "...",
      "task_at_handoff": 5,
      "handoff_file": "handoff_<timestamp>.md"
    }
  ],
  "status": "handed_off"
}

4. Create Handoff Document

Create conductor/tracks/<track_id>/handoff_<YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS>.md with:

  • Header: Track info, section number, timestamp, link to previous handoff
  • Thread URL: Current Amp thread URL ($AMP_CURRENT_THREAD_ID) for context retrieval
  • Progress Summary: Overall %, current phase/task, completed/remaining tasks
  • Parallel Execution State: (if applicable) Worker status, file locks, pending workers
  • Key Implementation Decisions: Important choices made during this section
  • Code Changes Summary: Files modified, new files, recent commits
  • Learnings Extracted: Key patterns/gotchas from learnings.md this section
  • Unresolved Issues: Blockers, pending decisions, questions
  • Context for Next Section: Critical info, architecture notes, testing status
  • Next Steps: Immediate tasks, upcoming phase work
  • Resume Instructions: Commands and specific actions to continue

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

handoff is a command published in the GitHub repository NguyenSiTrung/Conductor-Beads (24 stars, last pushed 6mo ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 1,609 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. It is 91% identical to conductor-handoff, differing in 6 lines, and is treated as a copy.
