GameDev-MCP-Server: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

GameDev-MCP-Server AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from IvanMurzak/GameDev-MCP-Server. It costs 1,262 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Project instructions for building and running a C# server that connects game engines such as Unity, Godot, and Unreal to tools through MCP. MCP is a protocol for letting software tools communicate with an agent.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them to develop, test, package, containerize, and release the GameDev MCP server, including local builds against sibling .NET projects.
Why use it?
They give contributors the repository-specific commands and distinctions needed to build, run, publish, and release the server correctly.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01262 $0.01262
Opus 5.5 $0.00505 $0.00505
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00252 $0.00252
Haiku 4.5 $0.00126 $0.00126

Security

Grade A, and why

GameDev-MCP-Server AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

AGENTS.md

Engine-agnostic C# ASP.NET Core MCP server shared by the Unity-MCP, Godot-MCP and Unreal-MCP engine plugins. Thin host (src/Program.cs) over the NuGet packages com.IvanMurzak.McpPlugin.Server + com.IvanMurzak.ReflectorNet — ALL real server logic lives in those packages; this repo contains no engine-specific code. Distributed as standalone executables (gamedev-mcp-server-<rid>.zip), a Docker image (aigamedeveloper/mcp-server), and a global dotnet tool on NuGet (com.IvanMurzak.GameDev.MCP.Server, command gamedev-mcp-server).

NOT AI-Game-Dev-Server (the ai-game.dev cloud LLM/billing proxy) — this is the local MCP stdio/http proxy host shared by the engine plugins.

Build / run

dotnet build com.IvanMurzak.GameDev.MCP.Server.csproj
dotnet run --project com.IvanMurzak.GameDev.MCP.Server.csproj -- --client-transport stdio --port 8080
  • All-platform self-contained publish: python build/build_all.py [Debug|Release] [rid ...] (stdlib Python 3.9+, any OS; --no-zip, then --zip-only after code-signing). It anchors publish/ to the repo root, so any cwd works. No PowerShell in this repo: workflow steps call Python.
  • Local dev against sibling MCP-Plugin-dotnet/ReflectorNet checkouts: dotnet build -p:UseLocalMcpPlugin=true.

Layout

  • src/ — the host: Program.cs, startup/auth defaults (Startup/), the configure command (Configure/), logging adapters (Utils/). New host code goes here, not engine or server logic.
  • tests/GameDev.MCP.Server.Tests/ — xUnit tests (excluded from the main csproj build and pack).
  • build/ — the cross-platform publish script (build_all.py) and the macOS entitlements.
  • scripts/ — the release dependency guard + its offline unit tests (scripts/tests/, run by PR CI).
  • docs/NUGET.md — the NuGet readme; docs/img/ — README images.
  • .github/workflows/ — PR tests and the dispatch-only release with its deploy_* children.
  • Root: the csproj, server.json (package half of the one registry listing io.github.IvanMurzak/Unity-MCP; the listing is published from the Unity-MCP repo, never from here), Dockerfile, appsettings.json, NLog.config.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
