nes-php-glfw copilot-instructions.md

nes-php-glfw copilot-instructions.md is an instructions file for GitHub Copilot from oliverearl/nes-php-glfw. It costs 2,719 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A project guide for GitHub Copilot, an AI coding assistant, working on a PHP program that imitates a Nintendo Entertainment System. It defines the main instruction file and describes the emulator's structure, coding style, tests, and documentation rules.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for maintaining the emulator, including its 6502 processor, graphics, planned sound system, PHPUnit tests, static checks, formatting, and documentation.
Why use it?
It gives Copilot the project's context and prevents its changes from conflicting with the repository's other development guidance.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.02719 $0.02719
Opus 5 $0.01359 $0.01359
Sonnet 5 $0.00544 $0.00544
Haiku 4.5 $0.00272 $0.00272

Measured 5d ago against content hash f855b496896d, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

nes-php-glfw copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

GitHub Copilot Development Guidelines for NES Emulator

This document provides guidelines for AI-assisted development of this NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) emulator written in PHP.

Agent Document Source of Truth

  • AGENTS.md is the master agentic development document for this repository.
  • If this document disagrees with AGENTS.md, follow AGENTS.md.
  • Keep this document and all other agentic development documents in sync with AGENTS.md, including .cursorrules, CLAUDE.md, and .junie/guidelines.md.
  • When changing agent guidance, update AGENTS.md first, then update the corresponding Cursor, Claude, Copilot, Junie, and contributor-facing documentation in the same change.

Project Overview

This is a cycle-accurate NES emulator implementation in PHP 8.5+ using:

  • Graphics: PHP-GLFW (OpenGL) via the VISU framework
  • Architecture: 6502 CPU emulation, PPU (Picture Processing Unit), APU (Audio Processing Unit - planned)
  • Testing: PHPUnit with comprehensive unit and integration tests
  • Quality: PHPStan for static analysis, Laravel Pint for code formatting

Code Style & Standards

Documentation

Properties and Methods:

  • All properties must have docblocks describing their purpose
  • All methods must have docblocks describing what they do
  • Only include @param or @return when generics need to be declared (e.g., list<int>, array<int, string>)
  • Use @throws, @see, or @inheritDoc when appropriate
  • Do NOT add class-level docblocks

Example:

/**
 * The current PPU cycle within a scanline.
 */
private int $cycle = 0;

/**
 * Executes a single CPU instruction and returns the number of cycles consumed.
 *
 * @throws \RuntimeException
 */
public function run(): int
{
    // ...
}

Comments

General Rules:

  • Remove superfluous comments that merely restate the code
  • All comments must end with a period (.)
  • Multi-line comments use C-style /* */ syntax
  • Single-line comments use // syntax
  • Keep comments that explain complex logic or non-obvious behavior

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
