Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5.1 | $0.05031 | $0.05031 |
| Opus 5 | $0.02516 | $0.02516 |
| Sonnet 5 | $0.01006 | $0.01006 |
| Haiku 4.5 | $0.00503 | $0.00503 |
Grade A, and why
mcp-debug-claude-desktop CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 351 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
CLAUDE.md — mcp-debug-claude-desktop
Guidance for working in this repository. Read this fully before writing code. It contains measurements that are expensive to repeat and hypotheses that are already refuted — re-testing them is wasted work.
What this project is
A minimal, self-contained reproduction of a bug in Claude Desktop's MCP client: with several chats open, tool calls are lost — some are never sent to the server, and at least one response that the server demonstrably wrote to stdout never reached the client. In every case the user is told the server is unresponsive or has crashed, which it is not.
The deliverable is a public GitHub repository that Anthropic can clone and run in a few minutes, plus a bug report written from its output.
This repo contains no journal, no domain logic, no product. Its only job is to make one protocol-level question answerable: where does the message go?
Origin — what has already been measured
The bug was found on 2026-08-04 while operating an unrelated personal MCP server
(ai-journal-mcp, a private journaling server). That server already carries structured
instrumentation, which is how the following is known. Do not re-derive any of it.
The incident
Environment of that incident: Claude Desktop 1.24012.11 (macOS 26.5.2, arm64), Node v25.9.0,
@modelcontextprotocol/sdk 1.29.0 — one version below the one this repository pins. The
controlled runs of 2026-08-04 reproduced the same behaviour on 1.30.0.
Three searches were submitted in three chats, in this order: pidtest-delta,
pidtest-echo, pidtest-foxtrot. The complete server log for that window of time — both server
processes, every line:

What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

mcp-debug-claude-desktop CLAUDE.md is an instructions file published in the GitHub repository rsascha/mcp-debug-claude-desktop (0 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 5,031 tokens to every session, about $0.0252 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings.
