distributed-safeguards

distributed-safeguards is a cursor rule for Cursor from j4flmao/agent-skills. It costs 16 tokens per session (276 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of coding rules for network calls, shared system state, and microservices. It requires time limits, safe retries, and protection against repeating state-changing requests.

In plain words
What is it for?
It guides code that communicates between services, such as HTTP or gRPC APIs, especially when requests can change stored data.
Why use it?
It helps prevent failures caused by unreliable networks, repeated requests, and calls that wait forever.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00016 $0.00276
Opus 5.5 $0.00006 $0.00110
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00003 $0.00055
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00028

Security

Grade A, and why

distributed-safeguards scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

What it actually says

Distributed Systems Safeguards

Cursor/AI MUST follow these rules when writing code that involves network requests, distributed state, or microservices.

1. Embrace the Fallacies of Distributed Computing

  • Rule: Never assume the network is reliable, latency is zero, or bandwidth is infinite.
  • Action: All cross-service HTTP/gRPC calls MUST be wrapped in Retries with Exponential Backoff and Jitter. Never use a hardcoded infinite retry.

2. Strict Idempotency

  • Rule: If a system performs a state-changing operation (POST, PUT, DELETE), it MUST be designed to be idempotent.
  • Action: Use Idempotency-Key headers or database unique constraints. If a client sends a "Charge Credit Card" request twice due to a network timeout, the server must not charge the user twice.

3. Timeout Definitions

  • Rule: Never make a network request without explicitly defining a Timeout.
    # BAD
    requests.get("https://api.example.com/data")

    # GOOD
    requests.get("https://api.example.com/data", timeout=5.0)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

distributed-safeguards is a cursor rule published in the GitHub repository j4flmao/agent-skills (33 stars, last pushed 10d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 16 tokens to every session and 276 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-05.
