ios-testing-skill

ios-testing-skill is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from adilkalam/orca. It costs 38 tokens per session (879 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide to testing iOS apps with Swift Testing, XCTest, and XCUITest, covering code tests, integration tests, and tests that operate the user interface.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to test Swift and SwiftData models, app integrations, accessibility-based UI flows, and data changes in memory.
Why use it?
It helps teams choose suitable test types and reduce unreliable tests, including tests that depend on timing or external services.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00038 $0.00879
Opus 5.5 $0.00015 $0.00352
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00008 $0.00176
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00088

Security

Grade A, and why

ios-testing-skill scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

iOS Testing Skill – Swift Testing, XCTest, XCUITest

This skill centralizes iOS testing guidance so that testing agents and gates can stay lean while following consistent patterns.

It is used by:

  • ios-testing-specialist
  • ios-ui-testing-specialist
  • ios-verification
  • ios-architect / ios-builder when planning or implementing tests.

Core Concepts

  • Swift Testing vs XCTest

    • Prefer Swift Testing for Swift 6+ targets where available.
    • Maintain parity when migrating from XCTest; do not regress coverage.
    • Use @Test and #expect/#require with clear naming and tagging.
  • Unit vs Integration vs UI

    • Unit tests: small, isolated; no network/DB unless explicitly integration.
    • Integration tests: limited external dependencies; deterministic configs.
    • UI tests (XCUITest): page objects, accessibility identifiers, async-safe waits.
  • Testing SwiftData Models

    • Use ModelContainer with isStoredInMemoryOnly: true for tests
    • Test @Relationship cascade deletes verify dependent data is removed
    • Verify FetchDescriptor queries return expected results
    • Use @MainActor for SwiftData operations in async tests
    • Test unique constraints (@Attribute(.unique)) enforce uniqueness
  • Testing SwiftUI Atoms

    • Use AtomTestContext for isolated atom testing
    • Override atoms with .override() for dependency injection
    • Test computed atoms (ValueAtom) derive correct values from dependencies
    • Verify StateAtom mutations trigger dependent atom updates
    • Test atom dependency graphs with graphDescription()

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

ios-testing-skill is a skill published in the GitHub repository adilkalam/orca (2 stars, last pushed 2mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 38 tokens to every session and 879 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
