astrometric-kinematics

astrometric-kinematics is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from agentlas-ai/agentlas-desktop. It costs 31 tokens per session (332 once invoked), scanned B, original, Apache-2.0.

A scientific workflow for estimating stellar distances and sideways motion from parallax and proper-motion measurements, including measurement uncertainty.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps turn an astrometric table into distance and transverse-velocity results with uncertainty intervals and reproducible manuscript artifacts.
Why use it?
It avoids silently filling missing values and makes exclusions, assumptions, uncertainty calculations, and source records visible.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00031 $0.00332
Opus 5.5 $0.00012 $0.00133
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00006 $0.00066
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00033

Security

Grade B, and why

astrometric-kinematics scanned grade B with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Unrestricted tool accessmediumExcessive agency

A wildcard tool grant or "run any command" leaves no least-privilege boundary at all.

4. Call `analyze_astrometric_kinematics`. The calculation performs no network access and cannot execute arbitrary code.

What it actually says

Astrometric Kinematics

  1. Preserve the exact source table or provider-response SHA-256 and pass it as source_content_sha256.
  2. Project no more than 500 unique objects. Every row must carry explicit values or null for parallax, parallax error, both proper-motion components, and the proper-motion error ellipse.
  3. Use the SIMBAD convention pmra = mu_alpha*cos(dec). The error-ellipse position angle is measured north through east in [0, 180) degrees.
  4. Call analyze_astrometric_kinematics. The calculation performs no network access and cannot execute arbitrary code.
  5. Treat inverse-parallax distance as a bounded descriptive estimator, not a Bayesian distance. Do not use excluded rows for inference; review every exclusionReasons value.
  6. Keep the returned input, algorithm, table, figure, and result hashes with any manuscript export. The FigureSpec is data, not proof that a Vega-Lite renderer or image exporter ran.

Scientific boundary

The tool reconstructs proper-motion component covariance from the supplied error ellipse, then uses first-order delta propagation and a two-sided normal 95% interval. It assumes zero parallax/proper-motion covariance because that covariance is not present in the input. Missing uncertainties remain null. Nonpositive parallaxes and rows exceeding the declared fractional-error thresholds are excluded from inference, although available point estimates remain visible where mathematically defined.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

astrometric-kinematics is a skill published in the GitHub repository agentlas-ai/agentlas-desktop (6 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 31 tokens to every session and 332 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it B with 1 finding (unrestricted tool access). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-04.
