deextinction-feasibility

deextinction-feasibility is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from agentlas-ai/agentlas-desktop. It costs 26 tokens per session (875 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A staged evidence review for questions about bringing an extinct dinosaur back to life or creating a bird-based biological proxy. It separates biological revival from research on a similar living species.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to define the intended outcome, compare fossil candidates, record evidence gaps, and apply explicit stopping points under research review.
Why use it?
It prevents fossil evidence, DNA claims, and engineering ideas from being combined into an unsupported claim that revival is currently feasible.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00026 $0.00875
Opus 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00350
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00005 $0.00175
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00088

Security

Grade A, and why

deextinction-feasibility scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 35 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

De-extinction feasibility

Treat “which dinosaur is most revivable, reconstruct its genome, and hatch it” as a sequence of testable evidence questions. Do not present the requested outcome as already feasible. Before comparing candidates, record exactly one objective: actual-biological-revival or comparative-proxy-research. Never put those objectives on one feasibility scale.

When comparing two or more candidates, call assess_deextinction_feasibility only with evidence classifications bound by the host to sealed ResearchRuns. The tool accepts no caller-authored score. Its soft research-evidence completeness is not a biological-feasibility score. PBDB coverage is shown separately and is excluded from completeness, gate decisions, and audit ordering; its biological-feasibility contribution is fixed at zero.

Required stages

  1. Define the target. Distinguish biological resurrection of a non-avian dinosaur from engineering a phenotype proxy in an extant avian lineage. Record which outcome the researcher means.
  2. Compare fossil candidates. Run analyze_paleontology_stratigraphic_support for each exact PBDB catalog, then pass 2–20 exact catalog-run plus analysis-run pairs to compare_fossil_candidate_evidence. The tool derives taxonomic resolution, returned versus available occurrences, truncation, formation/interval/georeference/primary-reference coverage, separate oldest/youngest bounds, interval width, and missingness. It accepts no score and produces no scalar, ordinal, Pareto, revival, or biological-feasibility ranking. Treat candidateOrdinal only as request order. Preserve the descriptive matrix when a parent is truncated, disclose truncated-parent-evidence, and retrieve missing pages before making count comparisons outside the tool.
  3. Review molecular preservation. Search primary literature for specimen-specific, independently authenticated endogenous molecules. Record material, specimen identifier, geological age, authentication controls, contamination tests, replication, molecule type, and usable sequence length. Fossil abundance is not molecular preservation evidence.
  4. Enrich museum holdings. Query current GBIF or museum records for specimen and collection candidates. Preserve institution, catalog number, basis of record, identifiers, license, and access date. A museum occurrence is not a sequence or morphology measurement.
  5. Compare extant relatives. Use separately sourced and versioned extant avian/crocodilian genomes, explicit orthology rules, species tree, alignments, missingness, and uncertainty. Do not label an extant-relative consensus as a dinosaur genome.
  6. Run hypothetical ASR. Only after the comparative-genomics inputs exist, estimate alternative ancestral states with posterior support and sensitivity to topology/model choice. Label every result hypothetical-ancestral-reconstruction; never recovered dinosaur sequence.
  7. Assess development. Separate regulatory architecture, chromosome organization, cell-line engineering, germ-line transmission, host compatibility, embryogenesis, and viable hatching into distinct tests. Comparative sequence similarity alone supports none of them.
  8. Handoff. Send the evidence ledger, negative findings, artifact receipts, unresolved questions, and stop-condition status to the built-in Research Director before advancing a stage or drafting a conclusion.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

deextinction-feasibility is a skill published in the GitHub repository agentlas-ai/agentlas-desktop (6 stars, last pushed today), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 26 tokens to every session and 875 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-04.
