noaa-coops-water-level

noaa-coops-water-level is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from agentlas-ai/agentlas-desktop. It costs 43 tokens per session (495 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A retrieval workflow for observed water-level readings from NOAA CO-OPS, a U.S. service that publishes measurements from coastal and ocean stations.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to obtain up to 31 days of water levels for one station and prepare the readings for a table, time-series chart, or map.
Why use it?
It keeps the station, time zone, vertical reference, units, quality state, missing values, and raw response intact instead of silently converting or filling the data.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00043 $0.00495
Opus 5.5 $0.00017 $0.00198
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00009 $0.00099
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00049

Security

Grade A, and why

noaa-coops-water-level scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 25 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

NOAA CO-OPS observed water level

  1. Require the exact seven-digit NOAA CO-OPS station id, an explicit vertical datum, a unit system, and a timezone-qualified interval whose endpoints resolve to exact minutes and span no more than 31 days.
  2. Call fetch_noaa_coops_water_levels. Use normalize_noaa_coops_water_level_json only for a user-downloaded response and supply the same station, interval, datum, and units that produced it.
  3. Preserve provenance.requestUrl, requestSha256, responseUrl, httpStatus, rawResponseSha256, rawResponseBytes, normalizedSha256, retrievedAt, and the nested network receipt.
  4. Keep coordinates in EPSG:4326, observation times in UTC ISO form, and water-level and standard-deviation units exactly as returned for the requested unit system. Never infer or convert the vertical datum.
  5. Keep missing values as null. Keep NOAA preliminary/verified state and quality flags; do not interpolate, predict, or silently promote preliminary data.
  6. Use vegaLite with its contentReceipts.timeSeriesFigure for an installed Vega renderer, stationGeojson for a compatible map renderer, or table for data inspection. If no renderer exists, retain these deterministic artifacts and report the host-renderer boundary.

Verification

  • source.endpoint and provenance.responseUrl remain on the exact official api.tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/api/prod/datagetter endpoint with redirects denied.
  • The response station matches the requested station; longitude and latitude are finite EPSG:4326 coordinates.
  • Every observation is inside the requested UTC interval, timestamps are unique after normalization, and the unit plus vertical datum are explicit.
  • Recompute each content receipt from canonical JSON before treating its corresponding table, GeoJSON, or Vega-Lite object as renderable evidence.

Boundary

This workflow retrieves NOAA CO-OPS observed water level only. It does not retrieve predictions, currents, meteorology, monthly means, climate grids, remote-sensing products, or causal/forecast models.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

noaa-coops-water-level is a skill published in the GitHub repository agentlas-ai/agentlas-desktop (6 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 43 tokens to every session and 495 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-04.
