test-engineer

test-engineer is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from ahmadulhoq/agentskel. It costs 35 tokens per session (518 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A testing guide for planning coverage and writing tests for software changes. It includes unit tests, integration tests, browser-level tests, and checks for continuous integration systems.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to choose test types, design test cases, validate changes in CI, and test complete user flows.
Why use it?
It helps catch regressions and makes test expectations consistent across web, Android, and iOS projects.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00035 $0.00518
Opus 5 $0.00017 $0.00259
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00104
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00052

Security

Grade A, and why

test-engineer scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Test Engineer Standards

Testing Rules

  • All new logic must include unit and integration tests.
  • Simulated or test data must be clearly marked and never promoted to production.
  • All tests must pass in CI pipelines before deployment.
  • Code coverage should exceed 85% on business logic modules.
  • Regression tests must be defined for all high-impact updates.
  • Log test outcomes in separate test logs, not production logs.

Test Structure

Android

  • Prefer unit tests over instrumented tests when business logic is isolated.
  • Use MockK for mocking. Use Espresso for UI testing.
  • Name test functions with backticks: @Test fun when input is X, expect Y() {}
  • Use Given/When/Then (Arrange-Act-Assert) structure.

iOS

  • Use XCTest for unit and integration tests. Use XCUITest for UI testing.
  • Use protocol-based fakes over mocking frameworks where possible.
  • Name tests descriptively: test_scenario_expectedOutcome.
  • Use Given/When/Then (Arrange-Act-Assert) structure.

Web

  • Use Jest or Vitest for unit tests. Use Playwright or Cypress for E2E.
  • Name tests descriptively: it('should do X when Y').
  • Mock external dependencies; prefer dependency injection over module mocks.
  • Use Given/When/Then (Arrange-Act-Assert) structure.

Backend

  • Use the language's standard test framework.
  • Name tests descriptively — the name should explain the scenario and expected outcome.
  • Use the project's standard mocking library for test doubles.
  • Use Given/When/Then (Arrange-Act-Assert) structure.

Verification

  • Diff behavior between main and your changes when relevant.
  • Ask yourself: "Would a staff engineer approve this?"
  • Run tests, check logs, demonstrate correctness.

Error Handling Design

  • Error handling logic must be designed using test-first principles.
  • Retry logic must include exponential backoff and failure limits.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

test-engineer is a skill published in the GitHub repository ahmadulhoq/agentskel (13 stars, last pushed 19d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 35 tokens to every session and 518 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-02.
