What is graceful-shutdown?

A guide to making a server shut down in an orderly way after receiving a stop signal. It covers finishing active requests, closing connections, and releasing resources before the process ends.

Use it for Docker or Kubernetes deployments, rolling updates, server restarts, load-balancer draining, background jobs, and database connection cleanup.

It prevents restarts or deployments from cutting off work that is still in progress. This reduces failed requests and helps services stop cleanly.
