harden

harden is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from alsk1992/CloddsBot. It costs 10 tokens per session (416 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A tool for checking and securing virtual private servers, which are remotely rented computers. It audits settings such as updates, remote login, firewalls, failed-login protection, listening services, and administrator accounts.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to audit a server, apply safe hardening, run a quick setup for a new server, preview fixes, or generate a security report.
Why use it?
It helps find common server security gaps and apply fixes intended to avoid locking you out. It can also preview changes or produce a Markdown report.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00010 $0.00416
Opus 5 $0.00005 $0.00208
Sonnet 5 $0.00002 $0.00083
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00042

Measured 6d ago against content hash feaaab2f26c2, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-06, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

harden scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (index.ts), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Asks for rootlowPrivilege escalation

A mod that escalates privileges can change anything on the machine, not only the project.

| Sudo Users | At least one non-root sudo user |

Downgraded: this mod is about security review, or the phrase is quoted, so it is likely naming the pattern rather than instructing it.

What it actually says

VPS Hardening

Security auditing and automated hardening for remote servers.

Commands

/harden audit <host>

Run security audit against a server. Checks:

  • System updates
  • Auto-updates configuration
  • SSH root login status
  • Password authentication
  • Firewall status
  • Fail2ban status
  • System uptime
  • Listening services
  • Sudo user configuration

/harden fix <host>

Apply safe fixes that won't lock you out:

  • Install system updates
  • Enable unattended-upgrades
  • Configure UFW firewall
  • Install and enable fail2ban
  • Set SSH MaxAuthTries

/harden emergency <host>

Quick 10-minute hardening for new servers:

  • Full system update
  • Firewall setup
  • Fail2ban installation
  • Root password lock

/harden report <host>

Generate markdown security report.

What ships with it

1 file beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

harden is a skill published in the GitHub repository alsk1992/CloddsBot (885 stars, last pushed 4d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 10 tokens to every session and 416 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (asks for root). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
