forge

forge is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from ALTEN-group/coding-pal. It costs 87 tokens per session (871 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A catalog tool for finding, checking, and approving reusable software parts such as shared services, libraries, templates, and interface agreements.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to search the catalog, check that its entries meet certification rules, verify that project plans use valid catalog items, and report catalog health.
Why use it?
It helps teams look for an existing building block before creating a new one, and catches references to catalog items that are missing or not approved.

Skill for Claude CodeCodex

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one. Also seen: reads .claude/ paths.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00087 $0.00871
Opus 5.5 $0.00035 $0.00348
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00017 $0.00174
Haiku 4.5 $0.00009 $0.00087

Security

Grade A, and why

forge scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 11 executable files (scripts/bindings-check.mjs, scripts/bindings-check.test.mjs, scripts/catalog-lib.mjs, …), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Forge

Deterministic tooling around the Forge catalog: discover candidates for a need, validate the catalog against the certification rules, check Forge asset bindings in Think and Plan records, and report health signals. AI discovers and drafts. The Architect certifies and owns the Forge.

When to Use This Skill

  • Think must search for reusable assets before choosing a custom build, and record the chosen assets as bindings.
  • CI must gate the bindings in think.md (and their use in plan.md) against the catalog.
  • A new or changed asset is proposed for the catalog and must meet the certification checklist.
  • The Architect wants Forge health signals across the work items.

Path resolution

Resolve references/, scripts/, and catalog.json relative to this skill's install directory (the folder that contains this SKILL.md), not the consumer repository root or the current shell cwd. If the skill was installed under .agents/skills/forge/ or .claude/skills/forge/, use that base path.

Workflow

  1. Read references/forge-contract.md now. It is the authoritative source for the catalog resolution order (--catalog, FORGE_CATALOG, then the seed catalog.json), the asset schema, certification checklist, lifecycle, binding format, and health signals. The seed lists Gatelin and Foxnox. An organization points FORGE_CATALOG at its own catalog.
  2. Discover (Think). Search the catalog for the need, then judge the candidates semantically against their capabilities and interface docs:
node scripts/discover.mjs --need "users sign in with JWT sessions and role based access" [--kind shared-service] [--limit 5] [--json]
  1. Bind in think.md under ## Forge Asset Bindings as - **forge/<id>@<version>:** <how it is composed>. A custom build states - **None:** <reason> and a Custom Build Reason that names what was searched. Then check:
node scripts/bindings-check.mjs --think specs/issue-42/think.md
# after Plan: every bound asset must be composed by at least one step
node scripts/bindings-check.mjs --think specs/issue-42/think.md --plan specs/issue-42/plan.md

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

forge is a skill published in the GitHub repository ALTEN-group/coding-pal (5 stars, last pushed 5d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 87 tokens to every session and 871 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-14.
