swap-instance-overrides

swap-instance-overrides is a skill for Claude Code from alvinindra/figma-mcp-rust. It costs 52 tokens per session (444 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A Figma tool that copies text and visual style overrides from one component instance to other instances. A component instance is a reusable copy of a design component.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to propagate text, fill, and stroke overrides from a source instance to selected target instances.
Why use it?
It avoids repeating the same manual changes across cards, rows, navigation items, or other repeated components.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00052 $0.00444
Opus 5 $0.00026 $0.00222
Sonnet 5 $0.00010 $0.00089
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00044

Security

Grade A, and why

swap-instance-overrides scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Swap Component Instance and Override Strategy

Overview

Transfer content and property overrides from a source instance to one or more target instances in Figma, maintaining design consistency while reducing manual work.

Step-by-Step Process

1. Selection Analysis

  • Use get_selection() to identify the parent component or selected instances
  • For parent components, scan for instances with: scan_nodes_by_types(nodeId: "parent-id", types: ["INSTANCE"])
  • Identify custom slots by name patterns (e.g. "Custom Slot*" or "Instance Slot")
  • Determine which is the source instance (with content to copy) and which are targets

2. Inspect Source Instance

  • Use get_node(nodeId: "source-instance-id") to examine the source instance structure
  • Use get_nodes_info(nodeIds: [...]) to batch-inspect multiple instances
  • Use scan_text_nodes(nodeId: "source-instance-id") to capture all text content

3. Apply Overrides to Targets

  • For text overrides: use set_text(nodeId: "target-text-node-id", text: "copied text")
  • For fill overrides: use set_fills(nodeId: "target-node-id", color: "#hexcolor")
  • For stroke overrides: use set_strokes(nodeId: "target-node-id", color: "#hexcolor")
  • Process targets one at a time or identify patterns to apply systematically

4. Verification

  • Verify results with get_node() or get_design_context()
  • Confirm text content and style overrides have transferred successfully
  • Use get_screenshot() for visual confirmation if needed

Key Tips

  • Use scan_nodes_by_types to enumerate all instances before starting
  • When working with multiple targets, check the full selection with get_selection()
  • Prefer reading the full node tree of the source first to understand its structure
  • Keep related content consistent across all target instances
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

swap-instance-overrides is a skill published in the GitHub repository alvinindra/figma-mcp-rust (38 stars, last pushed 5d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 52 tokens to every session and 444 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings.
