ambient-pr-test

A deployment helper installs images from a GitHub pull request into an OpenShift namespace, which is an isolated area in an OpenShift cluster. It supports both standard OpenShift and MPP managed clusters.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps deploy, keep running, or remove pull-request versions of the api-server, control-plane, and runner for integration testing.
Why use it?
It removes the manual setup needed to test a pull request's images in a cluster and selects the matching installation process automatically.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00054 $0.01068
Opus 5 $0.00027 $0.00534
Sonnet 5 $0.00011 $0.00214
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00107

Measured 2d ago against content hash 5cfc05d02744, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

ambient-pr-test scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Ambient PR Test Skill

Deploy PR-tagged Ambient images into an OpenShift namespace for integration testing.

Invoke with a PR URL:

with skills/control-plane/ambient-pr-test  https://github.com/ambient-code/platform/pull/1599

Optional modifiers:

  • --keep-alive — skip teardown
  • deploy-only / teardown-only — single phase
  • --namespace <ns> — target namespace (defaults to current project)

Environment Detection

if oc api-resources --api-group=tenant.paas.redhat.com 2>/dev/null  < /dev/null |  grep -q TenantNamespace; then
  echo "MPP"    # use provision.sh + install.sh
else
  echo "Standard"  # use install-standard.sh
fi
Standard OpenShift MPP
Namespace Pre-existing Created via TenantNamespace CR
Script install-standard.sh provision.sh + install.sh
Auth Development (no JWT) Production (RH SSO JWT)
Secrets Auto-generated Copied from runtime-int

Standard OpenShift

For any cluster where you have oc access and an existing namespace.

Prerequisites

  • oc logged in with create permissions for deployments, services, routes, secrets, ClusterRoles
  • Existing namespace (e.g. mturansk)
  • PR images at quay.io/ambient_code/vteam_*:pr-<NUMBER>

Deploy

PR_NUMBER=1599
NAMESPACE=$(oc project -q)
bash components/pr-test/install-standard.sh "$NAMESPACE" "pr-${PR_NUMBER}"

The script:

  1. Creates DB and app secrets (auto-generated)
  2. Creates CP ServiceAccount + ClusterRole + ClusterRoleBinding
  3. Deploys PostgreSQL, api-server (dev mode), control-plane (standard mode)
  4. Creates Route (auto-assigned .apps.* host)
  5. Waits for rollouts, smoke-checks health

Verify

API_HOST=$(oc get route ambient-api-server -n "$NAMESPACE" -o jsonpath='{.spec.host}')
curl -sk "https://${API_HOST}/api/ambient"
acpctl login --url "https://${API_HOST}"

Teardown

NAMESPACE=$(oc project -q)
oc delete deployment,svc,route,configmap,secret -l app=ambient-api-server -n "$NAMESPACE"
oc delete deployment,svc -l app=ambient-control-plane -n "$NAMESPACE"
oc delete secret ambient-control-plane-token ambient-cp-token-keypair -n "$NAMESPACE" --ignore-not-found
oc delete clusterrole,clusterrolebinding "ambient-control-plane-${NAMESPACE}" --ignore-not-found

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

ambient-pr-test is a skill published in the GitHub repository ambient-code/platform (129 stars, last pushed 2d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 54 tokens to every session and 1,068 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
