drizzle-orm-migrations-and-drizzle-kit

drizzle-orm-migrations-and-drizzle-kit is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from andrewsrigom/agent-skills. It costs 85 tokens per session (950 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide to changing and inspecting database structure with Drizzle ORM and Drizzle Kit. Migrations are recorded database changes that safely move environments from one schema version to another.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for drizzle.config.ts, migration folders, schema introspection, SQL generation, commands such as generate, migrate, push, pull, and checks for migration consistency.
Why use it?
It helps teams choose the right way to generate, review, apply, or reconcile database changes and avoid migration conflicts.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00085 $0.00950
Opus 5 $0.00043 $0.00475
Sonnet 5 $0.00017 $0.00190
Haiku 4.5 $0.00009 $0.00095

Security

Grade A, and why

drizzle-orm-migrations-and-drizzle-kit scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Drizzle ORM Migrations and Drizzle Kit

Use this skill when the task is about schema rollout, migration generation, introspection, or Drizzle Kit configuration.

Scope

  • migration strategy choice
  • drizzle.config.ts and CLI options
  • SQL generation and application workflows
  • introspection from existing databases
  • migration consistency checks and snapshot upgrades
  • Drizzle Studio launcher behavior

Routing cues

  • drizzle-kit, drizzle.config.ts, migration folder layout, introspection, Studio, or migration conflicts -> use this skill
  • initial package install or upgrade routing -> use drizzle-orm-overview-and-setup
  • schema declaration -> use drizzle-orm-schema-and-relations
  • runtime-specific DB clients -> use drizzle-orm-drivers-and-runtimes
  • query code, transactions, cache, or read replicas -> use drizzle-orm-queries-and-sql

Default path

  1. Read references/migration-strategies.md first.
  2. If the task is command-specific, read references/drizzle-kit-command-reference.md.
  3. Choose the workflow intentionally: code-first generate/migrate, fast iteration push, db-first pull, or external-tool export.
  4. Keep schema, out, credentials, and filters in sync between the real project structure and drizzle.config.ts.

When to deviate

  • Use push only when fast iteration or no-migration-file environments justify it.
  • Use pull only when the database is the real source of truth.
  • Use export when another system owns SQL execution but Drizzle still owns schema intent.
  • Move to overview or schema skills when the problem is package/setup or model design rather than rollout mechanics.

Quick example

npx drizzle-kit generate
npx drizzle-kit migrate

Guardrails

  • Prefer generated SQL migrations for auditable team workflows. Use push deliberately for fast iteration or non-migration-file environments.
  • Use check when multiple developers or branches can create divergent migration histories.
  • Use pull when the database is the source of truth and you need Drizzle schema from an existing DB.
  • Use export when an external system owns SQL execution but Drizzle schema remains the source model.
  • Keep multiple config files explicit for separate stages or databases instead of overloading one config.
  • Treat schemaFilter, tablesFilter, and extensionsFilters as correctness controls, not cleanup afterthoughts.
  • drizzle-kit up is part of the v1 upgrade path because the snapshot and migration-folder format changed.
  • The docs describe local Drizzle Studio as free for local development, not as an OSS/self-hosted production surface.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
