Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00080 $0.01282
Opus 5 $0.00040 $0.00641
Sonnet 5 $0.00016 $0.00256
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00128

Security

Grade A, and why

personal-finance scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Personal Finance (budget, debt, savings, projections)

Order of operations

Most household plans fail from sequencing, not math. The conventional priority stack:

  1. Minimum payments on all debts (never miss — late fees and credit damage compound).
  2. Starter emergency buffer (~1 month of essential expenses).
  3. Any employer retirement match — it's an instant 50–100% return; skipping it is the costliest common error.
  4. High-interest debt (roughly, anything above what investments plausibly return — ~7–8%+).
  5. Full emergency fund (below).
  6. Long-term investing / retirement, then medium-term goals via sinking funds.

The budget

50/30/20 (needs/wants/savings+debt-paydown, of after-tax income) is a rule of thumb for a first draft, not a law — high-cost cities break the 50, high earners should push the 20 far higher. What matters is that the budget is built from 2–3 months of actual transaction history, not aspirational categories, and that every unit of income has a destination (zero-based). A budget that ignores irregular expenses is the standard failure: annual insurance, car repairs, gifts, travel — fund them monthly as sinking funds (annual cost ÷ 12) so they stop being "surprises".

savings rate = (income − all spending) / after-tax income ← the single strongest lever

Track savings rate monthly; it predicts financial outcomes better than investment returns do.

Emergency fund

3–6 months of essential expenses (not income) is the convention; push toward 6–12 for single-income households, variable/freelance income, or shaky job markets. Held liquid (high-yield savings), never invested — its job is availability, not return. Sizing it on gross income overshoots; sizing it on "what I could cut to" is honest.

Debt payoff

  • Avalanche: extra payments to the highest interest rate first. Mathematically optimal.
  • Snowball: smallest balance first. Costs more in interest, buys quick wins and adherence.

The best method is the one the person actually sustains — an avalanche abandoned in month three loses to a snowball completed. Either way: list every debt with balance, rate, minimum; fix a total monthly payoff amount; never redirect it when a debt clears (roll it into the next). Consolidation only helps if the rate drops AND the freed-up credit isn't re-spent.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

personal-finance is a skill published in the GitHub repository anhnguyen0905/codex-mcp (3 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 80 tokens to every session and 1,282 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
