threat-model

threat-model is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from anthropics/defending-code-reference-harness. It costs 133 tokens per session (1,854 once invoked), scanned A, original, no licence file.

A method for describing how a codebase could be attacked and what it must protect. It can gather this information by interviewing an application owner or by examining code, past vulnerabilities, git history, and penetration-test reports.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create a threat model for a codebase through an owner interview or by deriving one from existing code and security history.
Why use it?
It creates a security plan when the application’s risks are not documented or the owner is unavailable. This gives later security reviews a clear picture of likely threats and important assets.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00133 $0.01854
Opus 5 $0.00067 $0.00927
Sonnet 5 $0.00027 $0.00371
Haiku 4.5 $0.00013 $0.00185

Measured 3d ago against content hash 1cdc1a19591e, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

threat-model scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Unrestricted tool accesslowExcessive agency

A wildcard tool grant or "run any command" leaves no least-privilege boundary at all.

2. You will not execute any code from the target directory.

Downgraded: this mod is about security review, or the phrase is quoted, so it is likely naming the pattern rather than instructing it.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

threat-model is a skill published in the GitHub repository anthropics/defending-code-reference-harness (7,394 stars, last pushed 27d ago), with no licence file. It adds 133 tokens to every session and 1,854 once invoked, about $0.0007 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (unrestricted tool access). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
