oauth2

oauth2 is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from ashish7802/awesome-api-skills. It costs 0 tokens per session (685 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

Guidance for using OAuth 2.0, a standard way for an application to receive limited access to a web service without receiving a user's password. It covers common authorization flows and production patterns.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when adding sign-in-related authorization, third-party service access, delegated permissions, or service-to-service access to an HTTP API.
Why use it?
Applications often need to access another service on a user's behalf or access their own service securely. OAuth 2.0 provides a defined way to grant and limit that access.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

Security

Grade A, and why

oauth2 scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Quick Start

OAuth 2.0 is an authorization framework that allows a third-party application to obtain limited access to an HTTP service, either on behalf of a resource owner or by allowing the third-party application to obtain access on its own behalf.

Production Patterns

Authorization Code Flow with PKCE

For single-page apps (React/Vue) and mobile apps, never use the Implicit Flow. Always use the Authorization Code Flow with PKCE (Proof Key for Code Exchange) to prevent authorization code interception attacks.

Architecture & Scaling

Scopes

Design your scopes to be granular (read:users, write:orders). When requesting access from a user, request the absolute minimum permissions necessary to function.

Error Recovery

If an access token expires (HTTP 401), automatically trigger the Refresh Token flow silently in the background, update the token, and retry the original HTTP request without forcing the user to log in again.

Security Notes

Never store the Client Secret in a frontend application or mobile app. State parameters must be cryptographically secure random strings to prevent CSRF attacks during the OAuth redirect.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

oauth2 is a skill published in the GitHub repository ashish7802/awesome-api-skills (13 stars, last pushed 8d ago), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 685 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
