github-pre-push-gates

github-pre-push-gates is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from AtlasOmnia/donna-starter. It costs 39 tokens per session (5,355 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A checklist for checking a code branch before pushing it to a shared Git remote, such as GitHub. It covers dependency checks, privacy scans, review, and verification that the pushed commit is the intended one.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it before pushing changes or opening a pull request to run security, privacy, dependency, testing, and reviewer checks.
Why use it?
It helps prevent credentials, personal data, private history, vulnerable dependencies, or broken code from reaching the shared repository.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00039 $0.05355
Opus 5 $0.00019 $0.02678
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.01071
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00536

Security

Grade A, and why

github-pre-push-gates scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (scripts/ci-retry-monitor.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Pre-Push Quality Gates

Before pushing a branch to a shared remote, run through these gates. They prevent pushing credentials, PII, private history, or a broken tree. The skill covers the pre-PR quality phase — use github-pr-workflow for the PR lifecycle itself.

Dependency audit interpretation

  • The standard production gate is npm audit --omit=dev --audit-level=high, but a zero result there does not clear a vulnerable developer toolchain. Run the full audit too when the repository ships or executes from source.
  • Separate lockfile evidence from installed-tree evidence. npm audit --package-lock-only can pass while stale node_modules still reports old versions; use a clean npm ci in CI and then run ordinary npm audit before declaring the dependency fix verified.
  • If a patched transitive version requires an override, verify every resolved package path and exercise tests/build/validation. Do not use npm audit fix --force without reviewing proposed major downgrades and behavior changes.

Workflow overview

[code complete] → [immutable verification] → [privacy scan] → [reviewer] → [push + SHA verify] → [PR]

Each gate is optional by severity — skip when the scope doesn't warrant it, but never skip the privacy scan when pushing to a shared/public remote.

Multi-agent candidate freeze

Before any final gate or read-only review, verify that no write-capable agent still owns the checkout or can advance the branch from an orchestrator/sibling worktree. A clean status alone is insufficient: interrupted parent agents can leave delegated workers alive, continuation controllers can auto-start the next task, and command | tee log can mask an agent failure unless the shell uses set -o pipefail. Freeze the exact SHA across gates and recheck HEAD/status/writers after every long command. For process checks, shared-ref/worktree freezes, dirty-tree fingerprints, safe interrupted-writer recovery, and synthetic secret-fixture classification,

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

github-pre-push-gates is a skill published in the GitHub repository AtlasOmnia/donna-starter (102 stars, last pushed 5d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 39 tokens to every session and 5,355 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (runs shell commands). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
