waf-setup

waf-setup is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills. It costs 32 tokens per session (4,036 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for deploying and tuning a Web Application Firewall, which filters web and API traffic before it reaches an application.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to configure AWS WAF, Cloudflare WAF, or ModSecurity rules, protect public applications and APIs, and reduce false alarms by reviewing logs.
Why use it?
It helps block common attacks such as SQL injection, cross-site scripting, request forgery, and abusive traffic.

Skill for Claude CodeCodex

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one.

Needs its repository: it reads a path above its own folder, which exists only inside the repository. The line is SecRule ARGS:filename "@contains ../../" \.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00032 $0.04036
Opus 5 $0.00016 $0.02018
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00807
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00404

Measured 9d ago against content hash 6cbf22f76184, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-12, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

waf-setup scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

WAF Setup

Protect web applications with Web Application Firewalls.

When to Use This Skill

Use this skill when:

  • Deploying a public-facing web application that needs attack protection
  • Meeting compliance requirements (PCI-DSS, SOC2) for web application security
  • Blocking OWASP Top 10 attack categories (SQLi, XSS, CSRF, etc.)
  • Protecting APIs from abuse, injection, and rate-based attacks
  • Adding a virtual patching layer while application code is being fixed

Prerequisites

  • Web application behind a load balancer or reverse proxy
  • AWS account for AWS WAF, or Cloudflare account for Cloudflare WAF
  • Nginx with ModSecurity module compiled for self-hosted WAF
  • Access to application logs to tune rules and identify false positives
  • Understanding of HTTP request/response structure

waf-setup is a skill published in the GitHub repository BagelHole/DevOps-Security-Agent-Skills (1,084 stars, last pushed 3mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 32 tokens to every session and 4,036 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
