velocity.report: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/security-review/SKILL.md

security-review is a skill for Claude Code from banshee-data/velocity.report. It costs 33 tokens per session (1,228 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A structured security review for changed code or selected files. It checks how the code handles inputs, databases, files, networks, configuration, and other areas where attackers may cause harm.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to review all changed files or focus on areas such as APIs, radar and LiDAR processing, reports, web code, or configuration.
Why use it?
It identifies vulnerabilities before merging by rating their severity and explaining possible exploitation, impact, and remediation.

Skill for Claude Code

Written for Claude Code: argument-hint in frontmatter.

This is banshee-data/velocity.report's own configuration. It tells Claude Code how to work on velocity.report itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything velocity.report configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00033 $0.01228
Opus 5.5 $0.00013 $0.00491
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00007 $0.00246
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00123

Security

Grade A, and why

security-review scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Skill: security-review

Run a structured security review. Produces severity-rated findings with exploit steps, impact, and remediation. Uses Malory's methodology.

Usage

/security-review
/security-review internal/api/
/security-review internal/lidar/
/security-review internal/report/
/security-review all

Without an argument, reviews all changed files (from git diff --stat).

Procedure

1. Identify scope

If a path or area is given, focus there. Otherwise:

git diff --stat HEAD
git diff --name-only HEAD

Identify which subsystems are touched: radar, lidar, API, PDF generator, web, config.

2. Static analysis pass

Work through subsystems in priority order:

  1. Input parsing functions: highest risk
  2. Database operations
  3. File I/O
  4. Network handlers
  5. Config parsing

For each area, check:

  • Input validation: high-risk parse points include radar JSON parsing (internal/radar/), LiDAR UDP packet parsing (internal/lidar/), serial command handling, API request bodies (oversized payloads, malformed JSON, path traversal), config file parsing. Test mentally with: overflows, negatives, special characters, null bytes, UTF-8 edge cases, injection payloads.
  • Auth & access: is API authentication implemented and enforced on every route? Are privilege levels checked? Can an unauthenticated user reach sensor data? Are default credentials present?
  • Privacy guarantees: verify these claims hold (they are the project's core promise):
    • No licence plate data collected
    • No camera/video recording
    • No PII in database
    • Data stays local
    • Then look for what the claims don't cover: timing-based vehicle re-identification, metadata leakage (sensor location in exports), PII in debug logs or error messages, data correlation with external sources.
  • Code execution vectors: Typst/template-data injection in PDF generation, shell commands in scripts, deserialisation, template injection, local privilege escalation via systemd misconfig, suid binaries, file permission gaps.
  • Denial of service: API request flooding, large payloads, database disk exhaustion, memory exhaustion via sensor data streams, CPU-heavy queries, crash paths via malformed sensor data, invalid queries, null derefs, uncaught panics.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

security-review is a skill published in the GitHub repository banshee-data/velocity.report (11 stars, last pushed today), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 33 tokens to every session and 1,228 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-25.
