trove-principle-migrate-then-delete

trove-principle-migrate-then-delete is a skill for Claude Code from bravew/trove. It costs 70 tokens per session (248 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guideline for replacing an internal function, module, or interface by moving all of its callers to the replacement and deleting the old one in the same change.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when changing an internal API that has no external users, including finding callers, updating them, and removing the legacy API and its implementation-specific tests.
Why use it?
Keeping both versions creates two ways to do the same thing and leaves obsolete code behind. A complete migration avoids a permanent compatibility layer.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00070 $0.00248
Opus 5.5 $0.00028 $0.00099
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00014 $0.00050
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00025

Security

Grade A, and why

trove-principle-migrate-then-delete scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Principle: Migrate Callers Then Delete Legacy APIs

For an internal API with no external consumers, migrate and delete in one wave. Don't leave a compatibility shim behind "for safety" — the shim becomes permanent.

  1. Inventory every caller of the old API.
  2. Migrate them to the new one.
  3. Delete the old API in the same change, including tests that protected its pre-refactor implementation details.

The result feels append-only: there is one way to do the thing, not two. This is the core discipline behind the workspace's in-flight migrations (Vue→React, Lambda→jobs). For external/published APIs, normal deprecation rules still apply.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
