ip-review

ip-review is a skill for Claude Code from bromso/metapowers. It costs 66 tokens per session (1,120 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A review of the intellectual property terms in an agreement. Intellectual property means creations such as code, inventions, designs and written work; the review examines who owns them and what licences are granted.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to assess assignment, work-for-hire, licence, background and newly created work terms, as well as freedom-to-operate and open-source concerns.
Why use it?
It exposes ownership gaps, overly broad permissions and conflicts with open-source software before an agreement is signed.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00066 $0.01120
Opus 5.5 $0.00026 $0.00448
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00013 $0.00224
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00112

Security

Grade A, and why

ip-review scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

IP Review

Review intellectual property provisions for "$ARGUMENTS". Analyze ownership structures, license grants, assignment provisions, and open-source implications to identify IP-related risks and traps.

Note: AI-generated legal content does not constitute legal advice. Consult a qualified attorney.

Arguments. $ARGUMENTS may contain the project name and optional flags. Take the first token as <project> and treat --skip-checks as a flag; never include flags in file paths. All paths below use <project>. If --skip-checks is present, skip the prerequisite check and, before writing any artifact, append one line to .metapowers/legal/<project>/skip-log.md: - <ISO timestamp> — <skill name> skipped prerequisite check for <artifact file> — reason: <reason or "none given">.

Prerequisites

Check that .metapowers/legal/<project>/00-assess.md exists. If it does not exist, stop and tell the user:

"Run an Assess skill first (e.g. /legal:risk-assessment <project>) to generate the prerequisite assessment artifact."

Process

  1. Read inputs:

    • Read .metapowers/legal/<project>/00-assess.md for risk and jurisdiction context
    • Read IP-related provisions from the document provided by the user
  2. Analyze ownership structure:

    • Background IP — pre-existing IP each party brings to the relationship
    • Foreground IP — IP created during the engagement
    • Joint IP — IP created collaboratively (ownership, licensing, and exploitation rights)
    • Verify clear delineation between background and foreground IP
  3. Review work-for-hire vs. assignment provisions:

    • Does the relationship qualify for work-for-hire under applicable law?
    • If assignment is used, is it present assignment ("hereby assigns") or future obligation?
    • Are moral rights addressed (waiver or retention)?
    • Is consideration adequate for the scope of assignment?
  4. Analyze license grants:

    • Scope — what IP is licensed and for what purpose
    • Exclusivity — exclusive vs. non-exclusive
    • Sublicensing — right to sublicense and any restrictions
    • Territory — geographic scope of the license
    • Duration — term of the license (fixed, perpetual, tied to agreement)
    • Revocability — can the license be revoked and under what conditions

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

ip-review is a skill published in the GitHub repository bromso/metapowers (2 stars, last pushed 2d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 66 tokens to every session and 1,120 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-21.
