stability-ai-image

stability-ai-image is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from calesthio/generative-media-skills. It costs 95 tokens per session (8,197 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide to Stability AI’s hosted and self-managed image tools for generating, editing, controlling, moderating, and enlarging images.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for text-to-image generation, image-to-image edits, guided image changes, background work, moderation, and upscaling.
Why use it?
It helps developers choose between a managed API and running models themselves, while accounting for request details, licensing, moderation, and operational checks.

These are SkillSpector’s own severities. On a checked sample its high-severity flags on skills were ~96% false positives — a documented command, a public API, a “never do X” rule — so we show them as a caution to read, not a verdict. Why →

Skill enables autonomous high-impact decisions without human-in-the-loop verification. Critical operations (destructive commands, financial transactions, data deletion) should require explicit user confirmation.
Fix: Add human-in-the-loop confirmation for destructive, irreversible, or high-impact operations. Never auto-execute commands that modify files, send data, or alter system state.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00095 $0.08197
Opus 5 $0.00048 $0.04098
Sonnet 5 $0.00019 $0.01639
Haiku 4.5 $0.00010 $0.00820

Security

Grade A, and why

stability-ai-image scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Stability AI Image Production

Use this skill to choose the correct Stability AI image surface, make schema-correct calls, preserve production evidence, and avoid confusing the hosted API with self-hosted weights.

Evidence legend and freshness

  • Documented means stated by a linked first-party Stability AI source or the live first-party OpenAPI document.
  • Inference means a conclusion drawn from documented behavior; verify it when the consequence matters.
  • Production heuristic means operational advice, not a provider guarantee.
  • Volatile API facts in this skill were verified 2026-07-09. Re-check the API reference, pricing, and release notes before committing spend or shipping a long-lived integration.

Route the job before writing a prompt

  1. Decide between hosted and self-hosted execution.
    • Use the hosted Platform API for managed Stable Image services, edits, controls, upscalers, moderation, and provider-signed provenance.
    • Use open weights only when local data control, custom inference, fine-tuning, or deployment control justifies operating the model and its license obligations.
    • Do not imply that Stable Image Core or all Stable Image microservices are downloadable weights. The downloadable SD3.5 checkpoints and the hosted service catalog overlap only partly.
  2. Match the intent to one operation rather than forcing every job through generation.
  3. Confirm output size, input constraints, cost, and synchronous/asynchronous behavior.
  4. Confirm rights, consent, privacy, and the current Acceptable Use Policy before uploading source images.
  5. Generate a small approved sample before a batch. Record endpoint, parameters, seed returned by the API, request ID, input hashes, output hash, cost estimate, and policy/QA disposition.

Current hosted surface

Documented, verified 2026-07-09: REST v2beta is the primary feature surface. Stability says REST v1, gRPC, and v2alpha remain maintained but receive no new features or parameters; it recommends changing equivalent v2alpha URLs to v2beta. Treat legacy APIs as maintenance/migration surfaces, not sources for new designs. API reference

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
