notebook.lint_numbered_cells

notebook.lint_numbered_cells is a skill for Claude Code from causify-ai/helpers. It costs 11 tokens per session (346 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A Jupyter Notebook maintenance tool that renumbers cells in order and updates matching function names in the notebook and its utility file. A utility file contains reusable helper code kept outside the notebook.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for keeping numbered notebook cells, function names, and paired Python files aligned.
Why use it?
It fixes gaps, duplicates, and mismatches that make notebook structure harder to follow.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00011 $0.00346
Opus 5.5 $0.00004 $0.00138
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00002 $0.00069

Security

Grade A, and why

notebook.lint_numbered_cells scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Goal

  • Renumber cells in a Jupyter notebook consecutively and ensure all function names are synchronized with cell headers

Workflow

Identify Current Numbering

  • Read all existing cell headers and identify the current numbering
  • Make sure to follow the sections from .claude/skills/notebook.rules.md:
    • # Notebook Structure and Headers (Markdown Header Structure and Naming, Sequential Cell Numbering)
    • # Code Architecture and Responsibility (Sync Function Names with Cell Numbers, Organize Code by Cell Order)
  • Identify gaps, duplicates, or out-of-order cell numbers

Renumber Headers and Functions

  • Renumber headers consecutively (1, 2, 3, ... and 1.1, 1.2, ... for sub-cells)
  • Rename all functions in code cells and the *_utils.py file to match the new headers

Sync with Jupytext

  • Sync the paired .py file with Jupytext following the conventions in # Code Architecture and Responsibility -> ## Utilities vs. Notebook Responsibilities in .claude/skills/notebook.rules.md

Conventions

  • Follow the notebook conventions in .claude/skills/notebook.rules.md

Verification

  • Confirm cell numbers are sequential with no gaps within each Part
  • Confirm every cellN_*() function name matches its cell header number
  • Confirm the .ipynb and paired .py file are in sync via Jupytext
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

notebook.lint_numbered_cells is a skill published in the GitHub repository causify-ai/helpers (150 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 11 tokens to every session and 346 once invoked, about $0.0000 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
