research_idea.format

research_idea.format is a skill for Claude Code from causify-ai/helpers. It costs 10 tokens per session (438 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A workflow for reshaping a raw research-idea file to match a standard template without adding unsupported information.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to organize an idea into sections such as its core concept, questions, research topics, next steps, implementation plan, and references.
Why use it?
It makes idea files consistent while preserving their existing status, filename, and available content.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00010 $0.00438
Opus 5.5 $0.00004 $0.00175
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00002 $0.00088
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00044

Security

Grade A, and why

research_idea.format scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Goal

  • Given a file <FILE> with raw information about a research idea, apply the research idea template and write the result back into <FILE>

Workflow

Read the Inputs

  • Read <FILE>
  • Read the template .claude/templates/research_idea.template.md
  • Read .claude/skills/research_idea.rules.md # Examples for a worked example

Apply the Template

  • Map the content already in <FILE> onto the template's sections (Status, Core Idea, Formalization, Key Examples, Questions, Research Topics, Next steps, Implementation plan, References)
  • Do not leave the template's placeholder bullets in a section: fill it from the idea's own content, or remove the empty bullets
  • Do not invent facts, results, or citations to fill a section; write only what follows from the idea (e.g., a hypothetical example marked as illustrative)
  • Do not add an Assignee field: assignees live only in the README table
  • Write references as Author(s), _Title_. (Year)
  • Write the result back into <FILE>, replacing its previous content

Conventions

  • Follow .claude/skills/research_idea.rules.md

Constraints

  • Keep the file name and its status prefix unchanged; formatting does not change status
  • Fit text in 85 character lines, per .claude/skills/research_idea.rules.md

Examples

  • research/ideas/in_progress.RL_for_pickleball.md

Verification

  • <FILE> follows the section order of .claude/templates/research_idea.template.md
  • No template placeholder text is left in the file
  • No fabricated facts or citations were added
  • No Assignee line; references use Author(s), _Title_. (Year)
  • Lines fit in 85 characters
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
