helpers: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/slides.fix_rendered_pdf/SKILL.md

slides.fix_rendered_pdf is a skill for Claude Code from causify-ai/helpers. It costs 15 tokens per session (346 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A procedure for checking that a slide source file renders into a well-formed PDF. A PDF is a fixed-layout document format, so the check compares the source slide count with the rendered page count and reviews the output.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps render slide files, inspect the resulting PDF, resize images, adjust text, and verify that each source slide fits as expected.
Why use it?
Slides can overflow, split unexpectedly, or produce a different number of pages than intended. Checking the rendered PDF catches layout problems that are not obvious from the source alone.

Skill selects an external model or provider that may use a different account or billing plan than the operator expects. Undisclosed model switches can cause unexpected cost or quota consumption.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00015 $0.00346
Opus 5.5 $0.00006 $0.00138
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00003 $0.00069
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00035

Security

Grade A, and why

slides.fix_rendered_pdf scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Goal

  • Make sure that the PDF rendering of a slide .smd file is well formed

Inputs

  • <SMD_FILE> lecture file to check
    • E.g., msml610/lectures_source/Lesson01.4-Brief_History_of_AI.smd

Workflow

Render the Slides

  • Run
    > gen_slides.py <SMD_FILE> -- --toc_type=remove_headers

  • Read the generated PDF <PDF_FILE>
    • E.g., msml610/lectures_pdf.tmp/Lesson01.4-Brief_History_of_AI.pdf

Check the Slide Count

  • Check that the number of slides in the .smd file <SMD_FILE>
    > grep "^* " <SMD_FILE> | wc -l

is the same as the number of pages in the PDF without considering the References page
  • If that's not true it means that some slides * <TITLE> are rendered in more than one PDF
  • Then adjust the size of the pictures and change the text so that each slide fits exactly in

Conventions

  • Follow the role specified in .claude/skills/role.ai_researcher.md
  • Read the conventions in .claude/skills/slides.rules.md

Verification

  • The number of slides in <SMD_FILE> is the same number of slides in the <PDF_FILE> file
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
