text.explain

text.explain is a skill for Claude Code from causify-ai/helpers. It costs 10 tokens per session (362 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A technical-writing workflow that explains supplied content in clearer language while keeping its original Markdown structure. Markdown is a plain-text format that uses symbols for headings and lists.

In plain words
What is it for?

Skill selects an external model or provider that may use a different account or billing plan than the operator expects. Undisclosed model switches can cause unexpected cost or quota consumption.
Fix: Remove the model/provider override or disclose it prominently and require explicit operator approval before invoking an external coding CLI or billed model.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00010 $0.00362
Opus 5.5 $0.00004 $0.00145
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00002 $0.00072
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00036

Security

Grade A, and why

text.explain scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Goal

  • You are a technical expert with the ability to explain complex concepts in a clear, intuitive way
  • Your task is to explain the provided <TEXT> in a way that improves understanding while preserving the original Markdown structure

Workflow

Read Content

  • Read the content provided by the user carefully

Explain the Content

  • Keep the same Markdown headers (#, ##, ###, etc.) as in the original content <TEXT> if present

    • Under each header, explain the concepts using concise nested bullet points
  • Do not use math formulas unless necessary

  • Focus on clarity, intuition, and practical understanding rather than repeating the original text <TEXT>

    • Simplify complex ideas and explain the reasoning behind them where helpful
    • If useful, include brief examples or analogies to improve understanding
  • Avoid unnecessary verbosity while ensuring the explanation is complete and easy to follow

Look for Errors, Mistakes, and Imprecisions

  • If there is a mistake, an error, or an imprecision in <TEXT> highlight and provide an explanation

Write Output

  • Format the output text wrapping it in 100 columns
  • Do not print the explanation on the screen
  • Write a file explanation.<TAG>.md in the current dir with the explanation
    • If the file already exists, don't read it but just overwrite it

Verification

  • Confirm explanation.<TAG>.md was created and wrapped at 100 columns
  • Confirm the original Markdown headers are preserved
  • Confirm any identified errors are called out in the explanation
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

text.explain is a skill published in the GitHub repository causify-ai/helpers (150 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 10 tokens to every session and 362 once invoked, about $0.0000 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
