auto

auto is a skill for Claude Code from chan4lk/specclaw. It costs 61 tokens per session (300 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An automatic runner for specclaw's software-change process, moving active changes from proposals to plans, implementation, and verification.

In plain words
What is it for?
Running the next available phase for multiple active changes, with limits for task count and optional automatic checking or archiving.
Why use it?
It advances queued work without asking for approval at every stage, while stopping when a stage fails.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00061 $0.00300
Opus 5 $0.00030 $0.00150
Sonnet 5 $0.00012 $0.00060
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00030

Measured 6d ago against content hash 76ceea5080c6, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-06, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

auto scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

specclaw auto

First, run specclaw-ensure-init .specclaw — idempotently creates .specclaw/ if it doesn't exist (silent if already initialized; auto-inits using the current directory's basename as the project name).

Run the lifecycle autonomously for the active queue.

  1. Read .specclaw/STATUS.md for the next actionable item across changes.
  2. For each change, advance it to its next phase:
    • Proposal exists without plan → run /specclaw:plan.
    • Plan exists without implementation → run /specclaw:build.
    • Built without verification → run /specclaw:verify.
  3. Respect config.yaml limits:
    • automation.max_tasks_per_run — cap on total tasks executed this run.
    • automation.auto_verify — whether to chain verify after build.
    • automation.auto_archive — whether to chain archive after a passing verify.
  4. Notify the user of results via the configured notification channel.

Stop and surface the issue if any phase fails, rather than blindly advancing to the next change.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

auto is a skill published in the GitHub repository chan4lk/specclaw (12 stars, last pushed 2d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 61 tokens to every session and 300 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
