latex-writing

latex-writing is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from CHENyiru3/AI-Skills-Collections. It costs 159 tokens per session (2,449 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for writing and editing LaTeX files, which are text files used to produce formatted academic and technical documents. It covers document structure, mathematical notation, and formal writing style.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when creating papers, reports, technical documentation, or literate-programming files in LaTeX. It helps with headings, equations, figures, tables, and clear formal text.
Why use it?
It helps avoid poorly structured markup and inconsistent academic prose. It also separates the meaning of content from its visual appearance, so LaTeX can format it correctly.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00159 $0.02449
Opus 5.5 $0.00064 $0.00980
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00032 $0.00490
Haiku 4.5 $0.00016 $0.00245

Security

Grade A, and why

latex-writing scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

LaTeX Writing Best Practices

This skill guides the creation of well-structured, semantically correct LaTeX documents following established best practices for academic and technical writing.

Core Principle: Semantic Markup

Use LaTeX environments that match the semantic meaning of the content, not just the visual appearance. Let LaTeX handle the typography; you handle the structure.

Academic Writing Standards

When drafting academic papers, reports, or documentation, the prose must be clear, objective, and precise.

Tone and Style

  • Avoid colloquialisms and contractions: Use "do not" instead of "don't", and "establish" instead of "set up".
  • Objective voice: Minimize first-person pronouns ("I", "we") unless describing specific novel actions taken by the authors (e.g., "We propose a new algorithm...").
  • Tense consistency:
    • Use present tense for general truths, describing what the paper does, and referencing figures/tables (e.g., "Section 2 describes...", "Figure 3 illustrates...").
    • Use past tense for describing the specific experiments you ran or past related work (e.g., "Smith et al. demonstrated...", "The system processed 500 requests...").

Paragraph Structure

  • One idea per paragraph: Begin with a clear topic sentence.
  • Signposting: Use transition words (e.g., Furthermore, Consequently, However) to guide the reader through logical arguments.

Mathematics and Equations

Mathematical typesetting requires strict adherence to amsmath best practices to ensure readability and correct spacing.

Display Math: Numbered vs. Unnumbered

  • Never use $$...$$ for display equations in LaTeX. It is a plain TeX primitive that breaks vertical spacing.
  • Use \[ ... \] for unnumbered display equations.
  • Use the equation environment for numbered, single-line equations.

Anti-pattern: Plain TeX display math

% INCORRECT
The formula is:
$$ E = mc^2 $$

Correct: LaTeX display math

% CORRECT
The formula is
\[
  E = mc^2
\]

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

latex-writing is a skill published in the GitHub repository CHENyiru3/AI-Skills-Collections (1 stars, last pushed 7d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 159 tokens to every session and 2,449 once invoked, about $0.0006 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-02.
