microsoft-excel

microsoft-excel is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from CraftOS-dev/CraftBot. It costs 86 tokens per session (3,846 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An integration for Microsoft Excel, the spreadsheet application, through Microsoft Graph. It can access workbooks stored in OneDrive or SharePoint and work with worksheets, ranges, tables, and charts.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to read or update workbook data, manage worksheets and tables, access cell ranges, or work with charts.
Why use it?
It avoids implementing the authentication and API requests needed to read and change Excel files programmatically.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00086 $0.03846
Opus 5 $0.00043 $0.01923
Sonnet 5 $0.00017 $0.00769
Haiku 4.5 $0.00009 $0.00385

Security

Grade A, and why

microsoft-excel scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 586 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Microsoft Excel

Access the Microsoft Excel API (via Microsoft Graph) with managed OAuth authentication. Read and write workbooks, worksheets, ranges, tables, and charts stored in OneDrive or SharePoint.

Quick Start

# List worksheets in a workbook
python <<'EOF'
import urllib.request, os, json
req = urllib.request.Request('https://gateway.maton.ai/microsoft-excel/v1.0/me/drive/root:/workbook.xlsx:/workbook/worksheets')
req.add_header('Authorization', f'Bearer {os.environ["MATON_API_KEY"]}')
print(json.dumps(json.load(urllib.request.urlopen(req)), indent=2))
EOF

Base URL

https://gateway.maton.ai/microsoft-excel/{native-api-path}

Replace {native-api-path} with the actual Microsoft Graph API endpoint path. The gateway proxies requests to graph.microsoft.com and automatically injects your OAuth token.

Authentication

All requests require the Maton API key in the Authorization header:

Authorization: Bearer $MATON_API_KEY

Environment Variable: Set your API key as MATON_API_KEY:

export MATON_API_KEY="YOUR_API_KEY"

Getting Your API Key

  1. Sign in or create an account at maton.ai
  2. Go to maton.ai/settings
  3. Copy your API key

Connection Management

Manage your Microsoft Excel OAuth connections at https://ctrl.maton.ai.

List Connections

python <<'EOF'
import urllib.request, os, json
req = urllib.request.Request('https://ctrl.maton.ai/connections?app=microsoft-excel&status=ACTIVE')
req.add_header('Authorization', f'Bearer {os.environ["MATON_API_KEY"]}')
print(json.dumps(json.load(urllib.request.urlopen(req)), indent=2))
EOF

Create Connection

python <<'EOF'
import urllib.request, os, json
data = json.dumps({'app': 'microsoft-excel'}).encode()
req = urllib.request.Request('https://ctrl.maton.ai/connections', data=data, method='POST')
req.add_header('Authorization', f'Bearer {os.environ["MATON_API_KEY"]}')
req.add_header('Content-Type', 'application/json')
print(json.dumps(json.load(urllib.request.urlopen(req)), indent=2))
EOF

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

microsoft-excel is a skill published in the GitHub repository CraftOS-dev/CraftBot (380 stars, last pushed 3d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 86 tokens to every session and 3,846 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
