Getting it into your agent
One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5.1 | $0.00088 | $0.02233 |
| Opus 5.5 | $0.00035 | $0.00893 |

Grade A, and why
earthquake-guide scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 65 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
Scope
Catalog records of past seismic events from two independent global catalogs, plus the analysis products USGS attaches to its events. Keyless.
- Not a forecast service. The only forward-looking numbers are the USGS aftershock forecasts attached to some events. Not a tsunami warning service: the
tsunamifield flags a large oceanic event; tsunami.gov has warning status. - No geocoding, no place filter. The tools take coordinates.
place("12 km NE of …") is display text that no input matches against. Resolve "near X" to latitude/longitude with a geocoding tool first, then search or count within a radius. - The feed can't be scoped by area.
earthquake_get_feedreturns one global USGS tier for a rolling window ("Past Week" means the 7 days before generation, not the calendar week). For a place-scoped question, useearthquake_search_eventswith a radius and an explicit start. - Which catalog holds small events depends on the region. M2.5+ over the 30 days to 2026-10-28: an Italy box returned 6 USGS events and 162 EMSC; a Japan box 40 and 92; a California box 66 and 72. At M4+ the Italy box converged (5 vs 7). For small events outside the US, query EMSC, and always say which catalog a count came from.
Identifiers
| ID | Looks like | Comes from |
|---|---|---|
| USGS event ID | network prefix + code: ci38457511, us6000u18k |
id in feed and USGS search results; the segment after /eventpage/ in a USGS event page URL |
| EMSC event ID (unid) | YYYYMMDD_NNNNNNN: 20190706_0000043 |
id in search results with source emsc |
- One USGS event, many IDs. Every contributing network files its own ID.
earthquake_get_eventaccepts any of them, case-insensitively, and returns the preferred one:us70004bn0comes back asci38457511. The others are listed inassociated_ids. Use the returnedidfrom then on, and treat any ID inassociated_idsas the same event when deduplicating. An ID from a news link, an earlier read, or another network can be one of these aliases. - No ID links the two catalogs.
associated_idsnever holds an EMSC unid. To get from a USGS event to its EMSC record, or back, match by time and place (Workflows).
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

earthquake-guide is a skill published in the GitHub repository cyanheads/earthquake-mcp-server (1 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 88 tokens to every session and 2,233 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-29.
