outcome-based-ai-pricing

outcome-based-ai-pricing is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from deciqAI/knowledge-skills. It costs 158 tokens per session (1,903 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide to pricing AI products according to measurable usage or customer results rather than only charging per user seat. It considers value, risk limits, attribution, and the cost of running the AI.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to choose a billing unit, design pay-for-results pricing, set minimums or caps, and check whether the price remains profitable as usage grows.
Why use it?
Per-seat pricing can earn less as AI does more work and customers need fewer people, while outcome measures can be harder to define and verify.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00158 $0.01903
Opus 5.5 $0.00063 $0.00761
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00032 $0.00381
Haiku 4.5 $0.00016 $0.00190

Security

Grade A, and why

outcome-based-ai-pricing scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Outcome-Based AI Pricing

Overview

When AI replaces human work, the customer needs fewer seats — so seat pricing moves in the opposite direction from the value delivered. The more the product works, the less it earns. The charge unit has to move to a measure of value the customer recognizes: a usage unit close to the work, or the outcome itself.

Core mechanism: pick a charge unit that is measurable, attributable, and grows with value → add a floor and a cap to share risk → check gross margin against inference cost at the tail. The charge unit is a product decision, not a billing detail — the argument of Ramanujam & Tacke's Monetizing Innovation (2016): design the product around the price, not the other way round. Paying for measured results also has long precedent outside software: in U.S. federal Energy Savings Performance Contracts, the agency repays the contractor out of the energy-cost savings the project delivers.

Compose with pricing-strategy (the value-based pricing frame) · unit-economics-cac-ltv-payback (margin and payback) · principal-agent (attribution disputes) · goodharts-law (the metered unit gets gamed).

When to Use

  • An AI agent or automation product replaces human workload
  • Customers ask "why do we pay the same when we need fewer people?"
  • Per-customer inference cost swings widely and a flat subscription leaves margin unstable

When NOT to use: the outcome cannot be measured or attributed · the customer's budget only accepts a fixed fee (offer fixed + usage add-on first) · value is unproven.

Coaching Novices (Adaptive Front Door)

Engine mode: user has a concrete product and cost data → run The Process directly. Coach mode: user is unfamiliar → guide step by step.

In Coach mode, respond one step at a time. Each [WAIT] is a hard stop — output only that step's question, then stop.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

outcome-based-ai-pricing is a skill published in the GitHub repository deciqAI/knowledge-skills (13 stars, last pushed 12d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 158 tokens to every session and 1,903 once invoked, about $0.0006 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-26.
