storybuilder

storybuilder is a skill for Claude Code from design1online/author-it. It costs 0 tokens per session (547 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of writing aids for planning a fiction novel without having the AI write the prose. It covers brainstorming, story planning, characters, scenes, and checking the plan for problems.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to outline a series, build a story bible with characters and world details, plan individual scenes, review a draft chapter, or develop a detailed character sheet.
Why use it?
It helps writers turn scattered ideas into a consistent plan while keeping the actual writing in their own hands. It can also reveal plot holes and inconsistencies before drafting.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.00547
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00273
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00109
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00055

Security

Grade A, and why

storybuilder scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Storybuilder is a suite of skills designed to help someone use AI to write a fiction novel without generating a single word for you. AI-assisted, but NEVER AI generated. It consists of the following skills:

/storybuilder-brainstorm - takes a [braindump] of details from the writer and helps you produce a high level series outline for the given [genre] including [genre_tropes].

/storybuilder-bible - create a [story_bible] that uses the [braindump], [genre] and [genre_tropes] to create a high level story bible which includes a [character_list], [worldbuilding] and [outline].

/storybuilder-bible-audit - looks for plot holes, inconsistencies, or flaws in a [story_bible] and including suggestions on how to fix them.

/storybuilder-scene - creates a [scene-brief] for a specific chapter in the [outline] from a [story_bible].

/storybuilder-improvement-plan - takes a first draft of a [chapter] and [previous_chapter] if relevant and provides an [improvement_plan] to correct issues in the [chapter].

/storybuilder-charactersheet - creates an advanced [character_sheet] for a specific [character] using a slider rubric and your [story_bible].

Storybuilder Flow This is a high level look at how to use the storybuilder to help the user create a first draft of their story using the storybuilder skills.

  1. Brainstorm
  2. Story bible a. characters b. worldbuilding c. high level outline d. Audit the story bible and implement the changes e. Repeat the audit on the updated story bible until no more flaws/inconstancies exist
  3. Create a charactersheet for each major character in the story bible
  4. Select a chapter to work on from the outline a. generate a scene brief for the chapter b. generate a performance improvement plan for the chapter
  5. Repeat step 4 for the next chapter, continue until all chapters have been addressed from the outline.

Your Task Prompt the user for the title and genre of their story and ask if this is a new story and if they want you to take them through the full storybuilder flow. Ask them to dump a brainstorm of their story idea. Relentlessly grill the user until they have a completed a story bible, character sheets, world building and outline of all chapters in their story. Otherwise ask the user which part of their story they're working on and prompt them to use the appropriate skill for their needs or the outcome they are trying to achieve. Use the skills above for each step in the process.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

storybuilder is a skill published in the GitHub repository design1online/author-it (2 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 547 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
