What is okf-dbexplain?

A tool for inspecting a SQL database and producing a facts-only description of its physical structure. This includes tables, columns, database links, relationships, observations, and indexes; it does not define business meanings or policies.

It helps check database connections, inspect and validate selected schema information, preview synchronisation into an OKF Bundle, and report counts, validation results, changes, and a plan digest.

It gives other tools a checked view of the database structure without changing the human-owned business definitions. Its review step lets someone inspect proposed synchronisation changes before they are applied.

Sync OKF Database Facts

Turn dbexplain metadata into a facts-only OKF Bundle: tables, declared and inferred relationships, observations, and reserved overlay indexes. okf-mcp can index this bundle for schema retrieval immediately.

Human-owned Business semantics (business/, metrics/, queries/, policies/) are outside this Skill. It does not run overlay-draft or edit overlay Concepts.

Hard Boundaries

Never read or modify database configuration.
Never install or upgrade dbexplain.
Never collect with --sample; never put credentials or sample rows in the Bundle.
Never run overlay-draft or create human-owned Business Concepts.
Never invent SQL, joins, or enum meanings.
Sync preserves existing overlay bytes; only overlay indexes regenerate.
A future dbexplain version is accepted when the required CLI/JSON contract still works; report unsupported_dbexplain_contract at the supplied GitHub Issues URL.
