dx-estimate

dx-estimate is a skill for Claude Code from easingthemes/dx-aem-flow. It costs 59 tokens per session (3,059 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An estimation tool for Azure DevOps or Jira user stories. It creates a structured view of the work, including an implementation plan, expected effort, affected pages, and unanswered questions.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps estimate individual stories or batches of stories, including recommended hours or story points and affected AEM pages.
Why use it?
It gives a consistent starting point for deciding how large a story is and what it may involve. The estimate is added to the work item as a comment.

These are SkillSpector’s own severities. On a checked sample its high-severity flags on skills were ~96% false positives — a documented command, a public API, a “never do X” rule — so we show them as a caution to read, not a verdict. Why →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00059 $0.03059
Opus 5.5 $0.00024 $0.01224
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00012 $0.00612
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00306

Security

Grade A, and why

dx-estimate scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 302 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Defaults

Read shared/provider-config.md for provider detection and tool mapping.

Read .ai/config.yaml:

  • tracker.provider (or scm.provider for backward compat) — ado (default) or jira

If provider = ado:

  • Organization: scm.org
  • Project: scm.project

If provider = jira:

  • Jira URL: jira.url
  • Project Key: jira.project-key

You are a coordinator. You do NOT implement anything yourself. You delegate each analysis step to a subagent via the Agent tool, then synthesize results and post an estimation comment.

Argument

The argument is one work item ID — a numeric ADO ID (e.g., 2435084) or a Jira issue key.

If the user provides a full ADO URL like https://dev.azure.com/{org}/{project}/_workitems/edit/{id}, extract the numeric ID.

If no argument is provided, ask the user for the work item ID.

If more than one ID is given, estimate the first and tell the user to run /dx-estimate <id> once per remaining story. There is no batch mode: this skill has disable-model-invocation, so subagents cannot run it.

Execution Order

Step 1: fetch → raw-story.md
Step 2: explain → explain.md
Step 3: research → research.md
Step 4: synthesize estimation + post ADO comment

Idempotent by default: Steps 1-3 check if output files already exist and are still valid before regenerating. Step 4 checks for an existing estimation comment (by signature) and updates it instead of duplicating.

Instructions

1. Dispatch steps 1–3 sequentially

For each step, use the Skill tool to invoke the skill in a fork. Wait for each to return before starting the next.

Step 1 — Fetch:

Invoke /dx-req <id> (Phase 1 only — fetch)

Print: Step 1/4 done — followed by the summary.

Step 2 — Explain:

Invoke /dx-req <id> (Phase 3 only — explain)

Print: Step 2/4 done — followed by the summary.

Step 3 — Research:

Invoke /dx-req <id> (Phase 4 only — research)

Print: Step 3/4 done — followed by the summary.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

dx-estimate is a skill published in the GitHub repository easingthemes/dx-aem-flow (6 stars, last pushed 2d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 59 tokens to every session and 3,059 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
